April News
Reading
Students read a nonfiction text, Flowers, and created a diagram of a flower using text vocabulary. We learned to use the Table of Contents, Glossary, and Index and read headings and captions within the text. Our book was a great introduction to our next Science unit - Life Cycles.
Math & Bear Country Credit Union
In March, students completed a unit on money. We learned to identify coins and learned about the presidents and symbols on each. Students then used skip counting and counting on to find the value of a set of coins or determine what groups of coins could be used to make given amounts.
We went to the Bear Country Credit Union at the Franklin Mint Credit Union in Broomall. There we learned about the differences between earning, sharing, spending and saving money. We even got to see inside of the vault! We learned how to write checks and designed our own bills. Each student had a chance to be a teller and a bank manager and see how money works in a realistic setting.
Social Studies
Students learned about United States Symbols and what they represent. We did guided drawings and writing about the American Flag, Liberty Bell, and Bald Eagle. Students also enjoyed learned about the Bald Eagle through a live Eagle Cam.
