IT'S BEEN 10 YEARS since "The President's Own" United States Marine Band has been at MHS but they'll be back a week from tomorrow (Friday, Oct. 14) at 7:30 p.m. Once led by the legendary John Philip Sousa, the band has traveled the country since 1891 and won't be touring the Northeast again until 2027 so don't miss out. The concert is free but tickets are required and here is the link (plus we have a preview video below).
National Hispanic Heritage Month is a recognition of the histories, cultures and contributions of those whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America -- and we are highlighting members of our Hispanic community in the 'Humans of Manchester' gallery,

Dr. Diane Clare-Kearney, the district's Race & Equity Director, received the prestigious Honorable John W. Buckner Leadership Award at the 2022 National Summit for Courageous Conversations in Washington, D.C. Project Graduation Explanation and Information
Some people think Project Graduation is a school or PTA event and are unaware of what makes the magic happen on graduation night so they've put together this Q&A to explain it. We also have a reminder: Their 'Mums the Word' fundraiser is under way and you can click the link to find out more. MHS HOMECOMING: Spirit Week at Manchester High culminates on Friday Oct. 28 with a Homecoming Parade on Brookfield St. followed by a MHS football game vs. Windsor at Memorial Field. Click here for more details
- HELPING OUT: Verplanck Elementary School raised over $500 last week for the family of one of their own elementary students who is fighting cancer. Teacher Lindsay English, shown here with two of her kindergartners, is leading the campaign and there's more information here.

The Downtown Scarecrow Festival starts Saturday and runs through Oct. 29 and all the info is here.
Also on Saturday there will be a Community Clean Up and Shred Event at 311 Olcott St.
And the town's Fall Festival at Northwest Park features pumpkin decorating next Tuesday and Thursday leading up to a big (and scary!) event on Friday, Oct. 14. Check it out.

A referendum seeking $39 million to build a new library on Main Street will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 8. A group supporting the proposal has complied this FAQ document. (It's in Spanish, too.) Plus there's other info on the group's Facebook page.
Manchester Historical Society: Deadline to complete the survey for future activities is tomorrow (Oct. 7) ... there will be a Pumpkin Festival at the Woodbridge Farmstead on Sunday and a rug braiding workshop on Oct 20 and 21.

Paving on Route 83 (Main and Oakland Streets between Center St. and Tolland Tpke) is scheduled to begin on Sunday, Oct. 9 and run Sunday - Thursdays, 7 p.m. - 5 a.m. for approximately two weeks.
Senior Arlon Poteat (21) scored three TDs and had 208 all-purpose yards in a 28-25 win Friday night, leaving South Windsor frustrated but MHS cheerleaders happy.
- The Hartford Shockers will be running a 'Junior Shockers' basketball academy for boys and girls 8-18. It will be on Saturdays starting Oct. 22 and there's more information here.
- MHS grad Eamon Gara Grady is a standout on the Williams College men's soccer team and was recently in the NESCAC spotlight.
