Keeping you Informed
Stand Your Ground
On Thursday, December 10th, the middle and high school were treated to an assembly featuring motivational speaker Joel Penton. As his biography states, Joel is a graduate of The Ohio State University who played five years of football for the Buckeyes. He was a member of three Big Ten Championship teams as well as a National Championship team. Along with these collective accolades, Joel was also a four-time Academic All Big-Ten selection.
In his senior year, Joel received the prestigious Danny Wuerffel Trophy, which is commonly known as the Humanitarian Heisman. This particular award is given to the one college football player in the country who best combines outstanding community service with athletic and academic achievement.
Joel came to speak about how, as a middle and high school student, he made a commitment to be the best that he could be. Through hardship, struggle, and sacrifice, Joel was able to maintain his focus and not bend to internal or external pressures. As Joel told the audience, "One simple thing you can do to set yourself apart from the rest is to make a commitment, and when things try to take you away from that commitment, you stand your ground." Students were informed and entertained by his open, honest, and entertaining presentation that focused on the importance of setting goals and sticking to them. Students and teachers alike were both impressed and inspired by his words. If you'd like to learn more about him, feel free to check out the link below. A copy of Joel's book, Stand Your Ground, is now in the library.
Thank you for your continued dedication to the success of our school.
