Pounamu Newsletter
Week 9 Term 3 2022
Kia ora e te whānau,
Thank you to all the helpers who came and tidied up our school on Sunday. Our grounds are looking great.
Coming up is a public holiday to commemorate Queen Elizabeth and school will not be open on Monday the 26th of September.
On Tuesday afternoon we are having a kowhai planting to remember our friend and colleague Ilona Szakats who passed away last year. There is more information about this further on in the newsletter. On Thursday we are having another Positive Behaviour of Learning award. We are having a science afternoon which should be a lot of fun.
Ngā mihi,
Pounamu Teachers.
Dedication Ceremony
Parents and whānau are warmly invited to a dedication ceremony in the afternoon on Enviro-Day. We are planting a garden in memory of Ilona Szakats, long-serving teacher of Paparangi, who passed away in September 2021. Please come along at 2:15pm for the ceremony. If you would like to help with planting this special garden, please contact the office - we need help between 9:30-11:15am and 11:45-1:15pm on the same day. 100 seedlings have been donated to the school for this special occasion - thank you to Matariki Tu Rākau whose generous donation makes this garden possible. Grants from Matariki Tu Rākau enable communities to plant trees as living memorials honouring local heroes.
Enviro Day
Spring has sprung and as such, Paparangi School are using this term's Enviro Day on the 27th September for a spring clean. We are also running another gardening materials drive. We would love to take your pre-loved gardening tools, seeds, seedlings, pots, cuttings, potting mix, etc... off your hands. A new addition to our list of items we would love donated is any paint test pots that you no longer require. These will be used to help us create a mural with Paparārangi Kindy. Please send your child to school with any donations on the 27th of September and place them in the donation box outside the office or email sam@paparangi.school.nz or christinel@paparangi.school.nz. Thank you in advance for your donations and support!
For Enviro-Day, children will need suitable clothing e.g. gumboots, a jacket, sunhat and named gardening tools (gloves, buckets, spades).
Your assistance in the gardens on Enviro-day for an hour or two would be much appreciated. Please let your child’s class teacher know if you are able to volunteer your time. Thanks for your support of our wonderful Green/Gold Enviro School.
