Mayfield Messenger
Week 28 Edition/February 24, 2023
Message from Dr. Frischkorn
Good Evening Mayfield Intermediate School students and families!
Mayfield Intermediate has had some fantastic Mayfield Moments over the last couple of weeks that help show why Mayfield is such a special place for our students and our staff. Last week we hosted our Annual Black History Month Celebrations with guest appearances from local community members who shared their experiences and talents with our students. Our 850 Mayfield students showed their Bobcat Best behavior and were great audience members. We hope they left the assembly inspired and prepared to show their excellence within the classroom and out in the community.
Additionally, we have had several guest speakers visit our students during lunch and share their experiences growing up and how they got into their careers fields. Our presenters connected with students and inspired our students to strive for their dreams and to work hard.
Always Learning,

Thank You to the Hylton Performing Arts Center
Our 5th-grade students got to experience an outstanding performance at the Hylton Performing Arts Center. Terrance Simien and the Zydeco Experience captivated our students for the hour-long show—our students were up and dancing while learning about the Creoles of South Louisiana. Again, our Bobcat Best Behavior was on full display, and we are thankful to share these incredible learning experiences at the Hylton Performing Arts Center with our students.
Career Day is Coming April 14
Dear Mayfield Family and Community Members,
February 22, 2023
Mayfield Intermediate School will be holding a Career Day for our students on Friday, April 14th. Career Day is a fun-filled day where students will have the opportunity to learn about a variety of careers. They will meet members of our community and engage in activities designed to increase their awareness of the world of work.
We are currently in need of community members willing to share their careers with us. Our career day will resemble a college fair and all of our speakers will have their own booth used to showcase their career and talents. We ask that you arrive by 11:15 am in order to set up. The fair will begin at 11:30 am and conclude at 1:45 pm. Guest speakers will talk to students about what they do at work, what they like about their job, what type of training/education is needed, and how basic skills/subjects that the children are learning now can help them in this job. Please feel free to bring handouts, props and visual aids (stickers, trinkets, business cards, magnets, etc.). In return, you will receive many smiles and priceless questions.
We hope that you will consider participating in our Career Day activity. If you are available, please fill out the following link: www.tinyurl.com/MISCareerDay2023. The link can also be found on Mayfield’s homepage. Please RSVP no later than March 17th. Questions can be e-mailed to Liz Thomasson at ethomasson@mcpsva.org, or call 571-377-6617. Thank you so much for your time and consideration. We hope that you are able to join us for this special event!
