WHAT'S HAPPENING IN THE CLASSROOM??
- Homework: Students need to get their weekly reflection signed and complete their homework bingo sheet and math problem (orange paper front and back). Please have your child return the folder and completed homework sheet by next Friday 9/28.
- Innovation: We will continue innovation block #1. Our class will be going to the innovation lab where they will explore the app Stop Motion Animation and create their digital leadership portfolios.
- Language Arts -We will begin our new unit, Ways Characters Shape Stories. The essential question we will explore is: How do our actions influence our lives? Students will read two different fables and identify key events and create a summary. Additionally we will explore poetry and the different features of poems. Please click here for the parent letter with detailed information about this unit!
- Math -We will continue to practice place value, rounding to the nearest 10 and nearest 100, addition and subtraction strategies, and creating and understanding scaled graphs. Students will be using a variety of math tools to help them be successful including the math programs Reflex and Tenmarks to strengthen their understanding of the math concepts and fact fluency. We will be taking our unit 1 math test October 4th and 5th.
- Writing -Students will write their own fable with at least two characters that teaches a lesson about the importance of wits.
- Spelling- Students will engage with words using the long e sound. We will look at the different spelling patterns of the long e sound. They will complete a variety of activities with practicing these patterns and apply these spelling patterns in their own writing.
- Vocabulary- Students will be able to use reference materials to build their vocabulary. They will show their understanding of the words by using them in a sentence during collaborative conversations and in writing.
- 7 Habits - Habit 5: Think First to Understand then to be Understood. Our class will focus on communicating effectively with each other by listening to others.
