The Eagle Has Landed

October 7th - October 14th

Good morning Eagles!

It’s probably safe to say that we’re all looking forward to a long weekend! I hope you have some plans - or - no plans - to enjoy the time off! Thanks for all of your hard work this week!

I really appreciated witnessing the “Staff Shower” - how nice! Celebrating and supporting new staff is important when supporting a strong professional learning community. Through our growing interactions while attending a number of meetings, it is clear that staff genuinely cares about the young Eagles!

As always, thanks for picking up those extra classes and other efforts that support the school community!

Kicking off today until October 15, we will recognize the diverse cultures, rich histories, and the significant contributions of Latin-x communities in the United States. Hispanic Heritage Month starts on September 15 to mark the Independence Day of five Central American countries (Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua). In addition, Mexico celebrates its Independence tomorrow, Chile on September 18, and Belize on September 21. Over the next month, look out for more information spotlighting the culture and achievements of Latin-x Americans!

GCN Trainings (From Dr. Martin)

All District 64 staff members are required to complete a number of state mandated trainings this school year. These trainings will be provided through Global Compliance Network (GCN), which can be accessed on-line. The modules have already been preloaded for staff members. Please note that required GCN modules may vary from employee group to group.

The preferred method for completing these requirements is for staff members to log in individually to view the modules. Once completed, each staff member’s name is automatically entered into a database, indicating that the requirement has been met.

The home page of Global Compliance Network (GCN) can be accessed here:

http://www.gcntraining.com/site.cfm?home

  • If you participated in GCN online training last year, please log in as an “Existing User.”
  • If you are a new user, you will select “Login to View Training” in the green box on the home page. On the next page, select “New User - I do not have a personal ID”. Follow the prompts. You will need to choose a personal password.

Our organization ID is 74439p.

I have included an attachment to this email detailing how to enter the training program to access the tutorials.

Please keep Certificates of Completion for your files only. It is not necessary to send them to me or to any of our nurses. As always, I ask that you prioritize the medical and mandated reporter videos first, but would appreciate it if you would work to have them all completed by November 28, 2022.

District 64 Calendar

Please be reminded to look ahead on the District 64 school calendars for important dates and events. If you notice any information missing, please be sure to bring this to my attention and we will get updates posted.

For your reference, here is the updated D64 monthly calendar for 2022-23

WHY: The purpose of school is to educate students. Regular attendance in all classes is essential to earning good grades and establishing good habits for post high school living. A policy will not get rid of tardiness altogether, but it will set up a strong expectation for punctuality and establish firm guidelines for students.

COVID Booster Clinic

COVID-19 Vaccine Booster Clinic

District 64 is once again partnering with Jewel-Osco to bring a COVID-19 booster clinic to our students and their families. While I believe the choice to become vaccinated is an individual one, I encourage you and your children to stay up on vaccinations. Besides the health benefits, we have seen the difference when vaccinated students don’t have to miss time due to illness.

From the Cook County Department of Public Health:

“Vaccination continues to be our best weapon against COVID. Getting vaccinated will protect you and others from severe symptoms or complications from COVID that could lead to missed work or school, lost income or benefit time, hospitalization or death. Vaccines and boosters are safe, effective and free to all, regardless of insurance or immigration status. They cannot give you COVID and will not affect or interact with your DNA.”

Vaccination Date, Time, and Location

  • When- Friday, October 21 - The COVID-19 booster clinic will run from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm
  • Where- Emerson Middle School’s MPR.
