Managing Unsettling Current Events & News
Let's look at some ways to manage unsettling news:
1. Reflect and acknowledge how you are feeling.
2. Rethink your news sources - look for sources that are accountable, independent, fair and truthful.
3. Communicate your thoughts in a productive way such as discussing the events with your family.
4. Accept your level of control - is there something you can do to directly help the event?
5. Regulate your consumption: know your limits and consider a news curfew. It's ok to take a break and to focus on your own life.
6. Don't forget to balance bad news with activities that give you satisfaction.
7. Stick to your normal routine.
8. Reach out to a trusted adult if you recognize significant changes in mood, appetite, sleep, socialization, etc.
