December Newsletter 2020
Amy Belle Elementary
Principal Corner- Mrs. Kohel
Dear Families,
We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving break and are ready for our first full month of winter. We are looking forward to very productive weeks leading up to our next break.
Winter Reminders
We want to remind all families to make sure to send your child to school dressed appropriately for the weather. It has been unseasonably warm, so when there have been colder days we have students who are not prepared with the appropriate outerwear. Please make sure that you are helping your child get into the habit of having all winter items with them each day. The health room can NOT give out winter items this year to use for recesses as we have in the past.
Character education
For the next few months, we will be focusing on the trait of responsibility. We are encouraging students to be mindful of ways they can be responsible and how their actions affect themselves and others. We had a virtual Belle Fest last week where all students were able to get an understanding of what being responsible looks like and ways they can be responsible at school, home and in the community. Please help your child identify things they are responsible for at home.
Covid procedures
- Know that if your child is a close contact to a person who has tested positive for co-vid you will receive a phone call. We send out all school emails to let families know when we have a positive case in the building. If you do not receive a phone call, your child was not a close contact of that individual.
- If your child is a close contact of a positive person outside of school, please make sure to notify the office and keep your child home quarantined.
- If your child is feeling ill, please keep them home and call the office for guidance.
If you have any questions around Covid protocols, please call the Amy Belle office.
Before we know it, it will be winter break! On behalf of the Amy Belle staff, I want to wish all of our Amy Belle families a wonderful time off! We hope you are able to enjoy the extended break to spend time with your family and relax. We look forward to seeing everyone in the new year!
Sincerely,
Katie Kohel
Counselor Corner
During the last few months in Guidance Classes (once, every other week) Students in K-4th grade have been learning and practicing strategies around:
having a positive mindset for learning
being attentive listeners
being assertive problem solvers.
having Mindful Moments: paying close attention to being in the present moment, recognizing their thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations and avoiding distractions.
Fifth grade students are learning about themselves as a learner and preparing for a G-Talk conference to be scheduled in the Spring.
Outdoor Recess-Snow
- Students must wear snow pants and boots to play in the snow. The health room will NOT be lending any extra clothes, jackets, snow pants, hats, gloves, etc. out to anyone this year.
- Students who DO NOT have boots and snow pants are required to stay on the blacktop area only.
- Please make sure to LABEL your children's items..
- Bring extra clothing incase your child gets wet outside.
Please make sure your child comes to school with the proper outerwear for staying warm and playing in the snow. We DO have outdoor recess ALL winter long unless the wind-chill temperature is below zero at the time of recess.
Thanksgiving Food Drive
Thank you to those that contributed to our recent food drive, over 14 boxes of food were collected for our AB/Germantown Community. Your generosity and kindness is heartwarming.
Kids 2 Kids Toy Drive
Amy Belle will be collecting new, unopened toys starting December 7th. A flyer will be sent home soon with more information. Kapco Metals Stamping Co. will be working with us to pick up our toys.
