SAVE THE DATES:
We are working on planning an End of Year Remediation Boot Camp for all of our 3rd-8th grade students. This Boot Camp will take place after initial EOG testing is complete (EOG-ELA- 5/11 and EOG- Math 5/12). Any student that does NOT score proficient on his or her end-of-grade exams but is passing the course in ELA and Math will be required to take part in this remediation Boot Camp offered during school hours beginning on 5/16-5/24. These students will also be expected to be on campus from 8:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. for a re-administration of his or her exam that will take place on Thursday, 5/25 and Friday, 5/26. This re-administration of the EOG test(s) offers an opportunity for a second chance to show proficiency.
**We will ensure that none of the students taking part in the remediation Boot Camp miss any important events like End of Year Awards/Parties/Field Days.
Feedback Form FAQ 22-23
“Feedback Form” Submissions from week of 3/26:
Can the school hold a meeting for parents of incoming high school students and current high school students to discuss the changes that are involved with placing our high school students at the new site?
- Currently, there are not any plans to hold a town hall meeting at this time. Updates regarding logistics, etc. will continue to be shared weekly via our Newsletter. If you have any specific questions, concerns or thoughts that you don't feel have been answered or will be answered in our weekly newsletter, you are welcome to speak at our monthly Board of Directors' meetings during Public Comment . There are directions for how to get on the agenda for public comment located on our school's website on the Board of Directors' page.
Could there be other locations that are remotely closer to Clover Garden such as Gibsonville or Elon? I am not sure if anyone is aware but this are is one of the largest hubs for human trafficking. The location directly off of two major interstates and it is concerning.
- Security has and always will be a number one priority for Clover Garden School. We are often recognized by law enforcement as one of the safest schools in Alamance County and this is something we stand by and are proud of.
- We are currently working with Integrity on added security measures. We are looking to add additional cameras to their security system, added key fob locked entry ways, and limiting the amount of time students would be "outside" of the school building.
- We also will continue utilizing our School's Resource Officer and have been in touch with the Burlington Police Department about adding additional visible patrols/police presence.
Have you considered Strickland in Burlington for the panel for electrical component?
- Thank you for the suggestion. We will pass this name along to our contractors.
I don't think that it comes as a surprise to anyone that the new high school will not be ready. The majority of parents I have spoken to have all been waiting on this announcement since before the project even started. I would never expect a major construction project slated to be done in the same month that school returns to not have any delays or issues. But, I do not understand why we decided to add our new students for the 2023-24 year with such a small time frame between the project's completion and the school start. Why not make sure the school is done and then add the new children instead of pushing out high schoolers that have been faithful Clover Garden families for YEARS? It does not make sense to me and I don't understand if I can see this coming for a year why our board, administration etc. could not foresee this as well.
- We were made aware on March 14, 2022 that our building would not be ready in July by our project manager with CT Wilson construction. Our lottery for the 23-24 school year ran on March 6, 2023. Until this time, we've been told that our building that had an original date of completion of June 2023 would be ready for move in by July 24, 2023. There was not an immediate need to be concerned as we were assured by our contractors. However, contingency plans were created to prepare for a worst case scenario that now we will have to implement in order to stay on schedule with our academic calendar due to a delayed electrical part.
Why can’t the children just stay in the old school until the new school is done?? This is a very big inconvenience for not only parents but for student drivers.!! It’s not the kids fault that there is a delay in the new school, So my daughters experience for her last year in high school is gonna be at a some church??
- We understand the frustration with next year's plans and not being able to be in our new building. We are at maximum capacity on our current campus. We are not allowed to have any additional students on campus. Our maximum student capacity is 680 due to septic restrictions.
- We are currently working on logistics such as staggered start times, providing transportation for our families that have students at both campuses, etc. to make the transition as smooth as possible. Once we have solidified these plans, we will share them with you. Our goal is to make things as easy as possible for our families, students, and staff in order to not add any additional stress of trying to get to two separate campuses on time, twice a day.
How are students supposed to have true mental health days or academic breaks when teachers assign homework the night before? I understand they are probably expected to get it done that day but reality is they are mentally done and ready for the break as soon as they leave school.
- Homework is not to be assigned to be completed over the Academic Breaks for Mental Health Days. Please email me separately in regards to which teacher(s) are assigning this task.
If the school has to partnership with Integrity Church will that consist of the whole student body or just high school?
- Our high school students will be directly impacted by our partnership with Integrity Church as they are the students utilizing the rental space.
Would you be willing to reconsider what has been decided?
- Unfortunately, we are on a very tight schedule in order to get this plan to the "final approval" stage as school opens back up for us in 3 short months. We are always willing to listen to great ideas for back up plans in the worst case scenario something falls through and we aren't able to utilize the church's facilities. Please send any ideas our way!
Will there be additional security?
- Security measures will mimic what we have on our K-12 campus currently. The additional security we will have is through our local Burlington Police Department that has agreed to increase ride through/patrols/police presence that we don't currently utilize.
Why would you move the older kids away if the new school is not ready? Especially if you had foresight that the building is delayed?
- See answer above regarding the date of notification of delayed opening.
- Moving our older students allow for more flexibility with scheduling and courses they are enrolled in. For example, many of our students drive which lessens the amount of cars needed for a "car rider line" if we need to run one. Seniors leave school early, and don't utilize the parking lot all day long and wouldn't negatively impact the other two schools (play school and private school) utilizing the space during their dismissal times, less classrooms are needed in the afternoons because seniors leave early, therefore less "open classrooms" and more opportunities for closed classrooms. Lastly, many of our high school students take ACC college courses. We are working on an agreement to allow this opportunity to continue taking place in person by utilizing ACC's Dillingham Campus which is conveniently located in the same outlet center space as Integrity Church. There are many positive benefits afforded to us by allowing our high school students be the group of students that move and utilize this rental space temporarily vs. having our younger students occupy it.
I live near Integrity Church, and it takes 25 to 30 minutes to drive the kids to school every day. For families who will have students at both locations, will you allow that much time for travel to both locations at the beginning and the end of the school day? Or, will earlier drop off be allowed? Or, could a bus take student siblings from one location and drop them off at the other?
- We are working on all of the above! We will share logistical information with all once we have things solidified. A staggered start time schedule that allows time for drop off at both locations if desired, busing opportunities for students to be dropped off at the current location and bussed over to the new location, as well as how to get students on the bus routes are all being evaluated at this time. We will share information soon!
There seems to be alot of moving parts for the new school to open. Your letter stated 6 month delay (hopefully). Instead of moving the high school to another location(old BMOC), can the new incoming students for 2023-2024 school year be delayed a year in attending Clover Garden? The new students are getting the best of Clover Garden and the older students(especially seniors) are getting the worst.
- No, we can't "un-enroll" or "un-accept" any of our new students that are joining our CGS family.
- All of our students are being affected in some way this upcoming year since it is a transition year and a big year of change. Various parts of our campus are changing. All classrooms are moving to different classroom locations within our current three buildings. Additional classrooms are being added in the 3rd-5th grades. New teachers are starting, and new courses are being offered.
- There are many good things and bad things about change. We will help all of our students transition next year and get in the hang of things in a positive way. We know change is hard, but we are here to help our students and our families with that transition as positively as we can.
- Our seniors will not miss out on any "traditional" opportunities that any of our past senior classes have been a part of. They will still be with one another, just in a new place. This would be the same feeling they would have if the new building were complete and they were starting there. It would still be a "new space". We will ensure their year is just as special and exciting as it can be.
Since one issue is the influx of new enrollment of students based on the new school opening could we not advise new families that the construction plan is not complete, and their spots will be held until the next school year and keep business as usual, so everyone doesn't have to be displaced? I am not understanding how 4 grade levels can learn in one open space, the layout is not functional.
- No, our new families and students will be welcome at CGS and their enrollment will not be delayed or rescinded.
- All of our classrooms being utilized will not be "open classrooms". There are some closed classrooms and some open classrooms. We are also working on ways to make those "open classrooms" more individualized such as putting up partitions, adding temporary walls, etc.
- You will be able to walk around the campus on the first day of school with your student on July 24th. At that time, the campus will be ready for our students and "set up" so you can view the layout in person and meet your child's teacher(s).
What kind of Administrative staff will be on the integrity campus? Will this be at all times?
Would the change in temporary location for High School student cause any limitation to the classes offered?
- The high school campus will consist of a daily administrator (Principal) on campus each day, and other administrators such as the school's Director, Finance/Human Resources Director, EC Coordinator, Registrar, Athletic Director, etc. on a rotating basis. There will always be more than one administrator on campus at all times.
- No, we have worked out the schedule to ensure the same opportunities are being offered to our students just as it were if we were able to move in at our new expansion site. Shout out to our amazing staff for being flexible and being willing to drive to both locations to work to ensure our students get every opportunity afforded to them! Shout out to Mrs. Nina and Mrs. Reagan for working MIRACLES with our schedule and continuing to work MIRACLES again when we changed locations to ensure students have supervision, highly qualified teachers, and new opportunities! #CGSisBETTERthanBEST
I’m sure there has been alot of questions for our high schoolers next year. However, has the issue of safety been addressed with this new location? With locked doors and access to the public as well as surveillance at the satellite campus?
- Yes, see answers above. All doors are locked from the outside with a key fob entry access only except the public coffee shop. There are two/three rooms that we may be using in that area in which those classrooms will have locks and be able to be secured. We are continuing to look into additional security measures that we can apply that would benefit our students and staff.
In light of the number of recent school shootings happening in our country, can you send out or post CGS’s protocol for an active shooter/lockdown situation, what precautions have been taken already, how well-versed teachers are in how to handle a lockdown situation, etc? I am always impressed by the security when I come to volunteer, but I’m sure it would ease a lot of parents’ minds if these protocols were posted again.
- We practice lock downs at least twice a year. One is announced and one is unannounced. We will have our 2nd lock down drill for the school year sometime after Spring Break and it will not be announced.
- We have a Crisis Team that is comprised of key school personnel, our SRO, security, school nurse, administration, etc. This team evaluates our procedures in place and offer ideas, thoughts, and suggestions for improvements.
- We do have lock down drills in place. I do not want to share our "codes" in this message as this is a document available to the public, but our teachers, students, and staff are well aware of what to do in the case of a lock down. There are directions/instructions visibly posted inside of each of our classrooms/offices on campus.
- Teachers engage in critical response training annually. This training is done both in-person and through online instruction.
- Teachers and students engage in monthly fire drills and annual tornado drills.
- All exterior doors stay locked during the school day and are only accessible by badge fobs, doorbell buzzers, or by master key. Doors are not propped open without approval and supervision.
- We have numerous cameras monitoring our campus daily.
- We hope to never have to use our lock down drills but are prepared if we need to implement them.
What can we do to remind parents that it is not safe to drive off before the buses leave the stops. We are having a huge issue with this in the mornings and afternoon. Parents are literally speeding off to get out of the parking lot before the bus. This is especially worrisome in the mornings because students are still loading on the bus.
- Thank you for this feedback. Can you please send a message to cgsbuses@cgsnc.org in regards to which specific bus route this is and our SRO would be happy to stop by and ensure this very unsafe behavior stops. Student safety is our number one priority.
With the recent events of school shootings and threats made to schools I would like to be sure that security is still top priority even with everything being so busy around the school with end of year approaching and the new school issues. I spoke with another parent and they allowed their child’s grandparent to pick up early and didn’t notify the school just to see if he would be allowed to pick up and he was allowed to pick the child up without a license check or phone call to child’s parents to verify grandparent was allowed to pick up. I would also like info on how parents would be quickly informed in the event of a lockdown ect.
- Thank you for this feedback! The only case in which a grandparent should've had permission to pick up a student and was not asked for ID would have been if they were recognized by our front office staff and if they are listed on the emergency pick up form provided by our parents at the beginning of the school year. We will absolutely re-visit this event to ensure this was the case.
- You would know as soon as it happens (if it's real) and a mass message is able to be sent out by the school. You'd know shortly after the drill is complete if it's a practice drill.
Will there be bussing options for transportation to the new High school site?
- Yes, we are working on this!
Can you please continue to explore further options and allow voting between those options?
- No. Unfortunately, as mentioned above there is not enough time to revisit "new" options.
Why can’t the new students go to the church? Let the high students stay at CGS? Especially the seniors for next year.
- We enrolled students in Grades K-12. Students can't be separated. For example, we can't leave the seniors at CGS and then send the new high school students to the new building. This is due in part because our high school teachers teach multiple grade levels in high school. They aren't "just the 9th grade teacher", etc. These teachers are specialized by content/subject area.
- A HUGE positive thought is that we only have 1 new high school teacher next year. All of our teachers will be returning so students will have familiarity in a new place with teachers that they've know for years.
Will there be other options possible?
- No
Will the kids have possible opportunity stay in the building they are currently in?
- No, but many of our clubs will have the opportunity to "visit" our current campus throughout the school year so we stay connected with our younger students and teachers that they've had before.
Why would you allow the parents to believe that everything was on track if it wasn't? That's lying.
- Everyone was provided with the delayed construction update as soon as got the information and could get the message out. We understand and hear your frustration as we too were planning to start our 23-24 school year in our new building.
With the distance between the two campuses, how will high school classes like PALS and Teacher Cadet be handled?
- We are currently working on logistics of "how" and "what" this program will look like next year. It's not courses we want to lose, but we have to be realistic of how we can keep the programs or alter it to be a feasible course offering for next school year.
What type of security will you have on the integrity campus? Will the doors to the bays be locked? Will the classrooms behind the coffee shop which is open to the public be utilized, if so how will these be secured? Are there cameras in place for the whole campus and the parking lot?
- See answers to this one above. We are adding additional cameras and looking to increase security in the public spaces such as the coffee shop.
Does the building provide enough space for all High School students?
- Yes
Has the idea of putting the new additional students at cgs on hold so that current students can still stay at our current location? I really feel like our students who are currently enrolled should be more of a priority then bringing in such a large number of new students and transferring to a new location.
- See answers to a similar question asked above.
Is the elementary AIG situation going to look the same next year? Mrs Reagan has gone above and beyond to serve our elementary AIG students and is extraordinary at it and passionate about it. I would love to see her continue in that role; however, she has a lot on her plate and I am wondering if she will be expected to teach all of the elementary AIG students next year in addition to splitting her time teaching at the high school, especially with the temporary location being so far away. Elementary AIG has been canceled many times this semester and we are hoping it will be more consistent next year WITHOUT adding more to Mrs. Reagan’s workload. She has been wonderful, and we are so thankful for her hard work with and passion for our AIG students!
- Thank you for this feedback! We have multiple staff members that are AIG certified and are part of our AIG program. We are working on logistics of "who" these different individuals will serve and how it will be successfully implemented next school year. This program will continue to serve our AIG students next school year and more details will be shared at the start of the 23-24 school year.
Will there be a differentiation of start times for the two schools as they are now 20 minutes apart?
- We are working on this now. More information coming soon.
Is there anyway there can be appointment times to meet with the registrar and our student to help plan their schedules?
- You are more than welcome to reach out to Mrs. Nina at ninamiller@cgsnc.org or Mrs. Reagan at emilyreagan@cgsnc.org to set up a meeting.
Will there be options for additional transportation?
- Yes, we are working on this now.
What about siblings or family in the lower grades riding with their older siblings or family if at 2 different schools?
- We are working on this now to ensure student drivers can drop off younger siblings and still have time to get to school on time.
Why do you believe that all of this is okay?
- We have to make the best of the situation we were given. Bottom line. We can't make excuses, point the finger to blame, etc. That isn't productive or useful. It just creates unnecessary tension. Not being on campus on schedule as we planned is not in any way, shape, or form the Board's or Administration's desire or wishes. Unfortunately, due to things outside of our control, we must take a deep breath and move on. We have an amazing group of students, staff, and families that are in this with us and depending on us to make things happen for next school year. Many of our families are reaching out and asking if there is anything they can do to help us be successful next school year. To those of you, thank you. Thanks for being patient and understanding.
- I have no doubts that we will make it over this hurdle if we continue to work together and operate with the same mindset. Remind yourself that this situation is temporary. At the end of this project, we will have an AMAZING and BEAUTIFUL campus for our students to enjoy and take part in. That's what you have to remind yourself of every day... if you forget, look at the pictures of the progress below of the new building or drive past it at 5806 Pagetown Road, Burlington, NC 27217. You'll be reminded of the amazing things coming soon for our Grizzlies. #worththewait
What other options do you have if this contingency plan backfires?
- The last option we would utilize that we hope doesn't happen is a modified A Day/B Day or A Week/B Week schedule for all of our students utilizing our current campus. There is a restriction of the amount of students allowed on campus at any given time. This plan would negatively affect our Middle School students the most as they would be the ones primarily on a "modified" day with our high school students and would be scheduled to attend campus in the AM and the high school students would come on campus in the PM. This schedule would ensure that all of our students could be on campus daily for instruction but stay within our septic limitations. This plan would negatively impact student instructional hours as high school and middle school students would have to go to school "longer" or "over breaks" or into the summer time to make up the instructional hours missed by only attending school for half a day.
- We need this contingency plan to WORK and be successful or you see the negative impacts of what not being able to utilize the church would have on our total student population and 23-24 school year.
If you missed something or just need clarity on an event, etc. please fill out the form found here: https://forms.gle/L7oKFaRZUuiuh8JH7 This form will be monitored weekly and answers to frequently asked questions will be provided in the weekly Sunday message.

Please help us celebrate and SHOUT OUT our Amazing Grizzly Heroes recognized at CGS this week! These students are doing an AMAZING job of modeling our mission, vision, and values at CGS. They go above and beyond at CGS and we are VERY proud of them! Keep up the GREAT work!!
Khalid Seedahmed- 10th Grade
Bryson Terry- 9th Grade
Julianna Stanfield- 9th Grade
Lorena Kelley- 11th Grade
Lorena is focused and attentive in my Honors Math 3 class every day. She participates in class and offers answers and insights into the mathematical ideas that are presented to her. Even if she isn’t completely sure about her answer, she offers it anyway so that I can explain the mistake to others. The students around her benefit from her contributions.
Loren assisted with sorting out the food in the pantry for our food drive.
Cooper Soyars- 6th Grade
John Nall- 10th Grade
John assisted with collecting and sorting the cards for veterans during this year's Holiday Mail for Heroes! He was been a tremendous help!
When a group of high school students were asked to step up and volunteer to contribute to the creation of an All American Week display, John was the only student that was willing to prioritize the project.

SAVE THE DATES- Last Dances of the School Year!
Please see the flyers below for more information regarding the Mother/Son and Father/Daughter Dances taking place at the end of April.
Here is some information regarding a question asked last week:
What will the process be for registration and check-in at the upcoming mother/son and father/daughter dances? We want to support the dances and fundraising efforts for the school, but unfortunately don’t want the kids participating until the problems with the previous two dances have been addressed.
This is a prepaid K-5 event, and all money is due by 4/21. Each additional child is $15. Any mother or father figure is welcome. You will park in the gravel lot behind the school and enter through the back door. We will check you in, which will be a fast and simple process, and the rest of the evening is yours to enjoy in the gym! Everything is paid for ahead of time, so no additional purchases will need to be made at the door or during the event. There will be a dessert bar with a variety of goodies, drinks, a DJ for dancing, a photo booth with a photographer (prints will be made and put into a frame to be delivered to your child within two weeks after the event), a limbo contest among a few other fun games and lots of luau décor including a lei for each person.
Please email Mrs. Long for any questions/concerns at leslielong@cgsnc.org
