The Ritenour Review
2017 - 2018 Fourth Grade Weekly News
Hello 2018!
Happy New Year! I hope y'all had a wonderful winter break and enjoyed your much needed time with family. My family enjoyed from quality time out in Colorado. Surprisingly, we had warmer weather than y'all here! Who knew!?
A restful two weeks off is needed as we hit the ground running bright and early Monday morning. This week, we will tackle all three NWEA testing. I expect the regular curriculum to continue as best as possible with slight gaps with the NWEA schedule peppered throughout our week. What's normal anyway?!
Here is a look at what's coming up academically:
Math: We spiral back into fractions and measurement. We will be adding computation of fractions into our skills set! Several students have been begging to learn this type of computing.
Writing: We still have a few friends needing to finish essays, so we will use this crazy week to allow time to finish and some creative free writing for those already finished.
Spelling: We will take our middle of the year inventory and I will be regrouping the class according to their spelling strengths. It takes me about a week to identify all 26 student's strengths, so we will not have a sort this week.
Reading: We will close out our non-fiction unit, practice summarizing and synthesizing our reading materials. Next week, we will move into our book clubs!
Science: We will have a short unit on heredity before we move into our bigger unit of Rocks, Landforms and Weathering.
