Polkadot Class Happenings

The Week of April 22 - 28

In reading this week we are starting our non-fiction research unit. Students will be reading non-fiction texts and continuing to practice identifying the topic, main idea, and supporting details. Students will be jotting down important information to use for their individual research project. Ask your child what they are studying, and if you have any extra resources (books, magazines, articles, etc...) please send them to school with your child so we use it for their research! Thanks!

In conjunction with reading research, students will be writing down facts from their reading and determining what information is important to share with their audience and what isn't. Your child will create a digital product showcasing their research.

We are reviewing Measurement and will probably take a Math Assessment sometime this week on this unit. You can practice measurement at home by reviewing vocabulary words with your child, such as capacity, area, length, and weight and practice measuring objects around the house using non-standard tools.

We are currently in our Animal Unit. We are learning about the basic needs of animals and how their characteristics help them meet their basic needs.

Other Important News

Field Trip- Tomorrow, Tuesday, April 23rd is our field trip. Please make sure that your child is dressed appropriately for the weather and wearing tennis shoes. It is supposed to be cloudy with a chance of rain. We will be outdoors for the majority of the day. Many of you signed up to pack a lunch for your child. Please be sure to pack the lunch in a brown or paper bag for easy disposal. We are leaving at 9:00 a.m. and returning at approximately 2:00 p.m. Please remember to meet us at the Elgin Christmas Tree Farm and not at Forest North. Our campus will be closed to visitors tomorrow due to STAAR testing. Also, admission into the park for adults is $5.00. You should be able to pay at the door.

STAAR Testing: This week is STAAR testing week. Our campus will be closed to visitors all day on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

Class Pictures - I have 6 extra copies of class pictures. If you are interested in purchasing a copy, the cost is $13 dollars. Please make checks payable to Lifetouch. Payments should be submitted by Friday, April 26th.

Classroom Supplies - We are almost out of glue sticks. If you have any extra lying around at home or if you would like to donate some, please send it to school with your child. We would appreciate it!

Home Transportation - Just a friendly reminder to either email me, call the front office, or write a note in your child's planner if how your child goes home changes. I check your child's planners every day. I cannot send your child home a different way without communication directly from you. This is for your child's safety. Thanks in advance!

Have a great week!
