Serena jameka Williams was born on september 26, 1981, in Sagninaw,Michigan,The youngest in a family of five girls. When she was three years old, Serena and her family moved to Compton,California, where she first learned tennis from her father. Serena would practice for hours everyday. In 1999, she joined the junior U.S. tennis association tour and ranked first ind the age 10-and-under division.By 1999, two years after becoming professional, Williams was ranked 99 in the World.

Serena's 1999 singles at the U.S. open made her the second African-American woman ever to win a grand slam title;Althea Gibson was the first. Serena Williams had won six singles titles in grand slam events as numerous doubles titles, including a gold medal at the 2000 Olympic games in Sydney, Australia. Today, Serena, trough past years and counting, won 21 grand slam singles.
