Husky Happenings
January 21-26
From Mr. Martin
Routine? What does it have to do with student safety?
Part of an effective school is student safety. We first think of physical safety but I immediately move to emotional safety. The Middle School years can be tough to navigate. That is why I prefer routines, expectations, consistency, etc. when looking at effective instruction or ‘effective schools’. Students need to understand how instruction works. That is why we have some hard and fast routines at TRMS. Arrival, dismissal, bell schedule, cell phone policies, procedures in the cafeteria, etc. Early in my career I was told that people always prefer predictable behavior. In the bigger picture I see this as predictable routine. That is why we place time and effort into consistent patterns. This drives predictable routines which in the end creates students feeling safe at school. We continue to strive to create an effective school.

From Nurse Rhea:
Getting back into the routine of getting up early for school can be difficult following a long break! Encouraging a bedtime routine will help make those early mornings easier! Studies show that school aged children get around seven hours of sleep a night, when they really still need at least nine! Getting a good night’s rest can help promote healthy habits that will last a lifetime!
If you are the parent of a current 6th grade student, please remember that the Tdap vaccine is required for entry into the 7th grade. Documentation of this vaccine can be sent in at any time, and will alleviate some of the stress of starting a new school year in the Fall.
