Valley High School Update
Demonstrating the Valley Standard in the 4 A's-10/15/21
Valley updates for the week 10/18-10/22
AcademicsThis will be a normal week schedule. Valley's Academic Award celebration is Monday evening beginning at 7:00 PM in the Fieldhouse. IDs and masks are necessary to enter the building, and IDs to go through the lunch lines. Masks are to cover the mouth and nose. Congratulations to junior Claire Gu for earning a perfect 36 composite score on the ACT! After 8:20 AM, all doors lock and students and visitors will need to come through the North Main Entrance. It is against building policy to allow another student into the building through a door other than the North Main Entrance. Valley High School takes attending class on time very seriously. Please advise your student to make it all classes on time. Beginning Monday, we are making an intentional effort to track tardies and make sure students are getting to class on time. | ArtsGreat job from our Orchestra and Band students and teachers for their outstanding performances on Tuesday and Thursday. Best of luck to the Valley Marchmasters as they prepare for two competitions tomorrow, including state where they are vying for their 60th division 1 rating!! If earning 6 decades of consecutive 1 ratings doesn't demonstrate the Valley Standard, nothing else does. Valley's fall play Dracula is coming soon!! | ActivitiesHall of Honor nominations are now open until October 31st. There are 35 days left in the Food Bank of Iowa challenge in raising money and food for hungry Iowans. Please consider contributing to this worthy cause by clicking on this link. More contributions have been made!! Let's win this challenge! Another worthy cause in which Valley High School is participating is this year's Winter Warmth Drive through Friday, October 22nd. Boxes will be at the North Main Entrance and throughout the building to deposit winter clothing. Blankets, coats, gloves, boots, snow pants and scarves are all accepted. Seniors who have not turned in their senior pictures, here is an important reminder. Beginning on Tuesday, October 19th, students will take part in a survey focusing on Social Emotional Learning to provide valuable data for our Student Support Team to better provide resources and support for students around the five SEL competencies. This will take place in Advisory and will take 20-25 minutes. Chess Club has resumed match play Tuesdays after school in the Media Center. Students who are interested in poetry, prose or artwork are encouraged to submit their work to Ms. Perry (perrye@wdmcs.org) for a chance to be featured in Valley's literary magazine, Ink. Prayer Club meets Friday morning at 7:20 AM in Mrs. Stanfel's room, 1607. Come for breakfast, fellowship and prayer. Join the Greenhouse Club in room 1329 the first and third Wednesdays of each month after school. Gender Sexuality Alliance (GSA) meets Thursdays 3:30-4:15 in room 3422. Join us for Anime Club every Tuesday and Thursday morning at 7:30 AM in Ms. Stanfel's Room 1607. |
