A note from District 64 School Health Services
To all District 64 Families:
Autumn days predictably bring cooler weather, changing colors and of course, cold and flu season. Since influenza viruses vary from year to year, it may be difficult to predict the flu season's beginning and peak. Flu activity in the U.S. peaks between December and February, but can begin as early as October and continue to occur as late as May.
To prepare your family for the 2018-19 Influenza Season, please visit the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) for basic flu facts, prevention tips, and treatment information by clicking here.

News From the Art Room
Kindergarten: In kindergarten, the students worked this week on any art project that they hadn’t finished working on while also decorating their portfolios. Look for these to come home soon!
First Grade: In First Grade, the students are working on color mixing. We mixed red with yellow to make orange so we can create some beautiful fall trees. Ask your first grader what two colors can you mix together to make a third color! Also, ask them what kind of a brush they used! (The answer is STIPPLE brush) I hope they all know this!!
Second Grade: The Second Graders learned about the artist Wassily Kandinsky. They created an abstract tree using concentric circles representing the leaves as Kandinsky once did.
Third Grade: Our Third Graders are working on learning all about the elements and principles of design. This will take us through December as we explore a variety of materials. This week’s focus has been on pattern. We are in the process of creating ONE LONG LINE! Stop in and check it out!!
Fourth Grade: Fourth Graders are continuing working on learning about geometric shapes in architecture. This week they created a haunted house with scratch art paper.
Fifth Grade: The Fifth Graders learned about Keith Haring. We are creating large posters in the style of Keith Haring and will be placing them around the school!

The Art Room is still looking for a sewing machine. Do you have an old one that is just collecting dust? Would you like to donate it to the art room? If so, please just drop it off to our Art Room at any time! Thank you so much!
News From the Music Room
So much to be thankful for in the music room this November! We enjoy working with your children so much and seeing them grow as musicians! This month each grade level will be singing some patriotic music as we prepare to sing around the flag pole on Veteran's Day, and after that we will be moving onto fun songs for Thanksgiving. Just before Thanksgiving break starts, we will begin our music for Holiday Sing! That time sure goes quickly!
