HOOT NEWS
THANK YOU!
Thank you for your attendance and active participation yesterday! I always enjoy it when we are able to all get together to work and plan!
Also, thank you to everyone for your support to me as my family dealt with a death in the family. You are an amazingly kind and supportive staff and I am very grateful to you.
Thank you to those of you who contributed to a fund for us. We are so appreciative of your kindness! We used those funds to feed the many family members who came in from out of state and stayed the weekend with us. Thank you for your kindness. It meant a lot to me and my family.
CAT TEAM:
We will meet this Wednesday February 14th, from 4-5pm in room 103. MMS CAT Team will be joining us. If you are not able to attend, please send a representative.
FROM THE CUSTODIANS:
Friendly reminder - custodians will flip your classroom trash cans over after they take the trash out at the end of the day. If you place food or other rat enticing items in the trash can AFTER they are flipped over, please take the trash out when you leave.
Also, they will be closing and locking the pod doors when they are done cleaning. You should all have keys to your pod - if you don't, see Adriana!
VALENTINES' PARTIES:
Please make sure that you have communicated the time of your Valentine's party and let parents know if kids need to make boxes/bags for valentines. It might be a good idea to recommend non-candy options if they are including a prize with their valentines.
SUBSTITUTES:
We have hired a new clerk - Melinda Flores! We are very excited to have Melinda on board! She comes with lots of experience in managing elementary campus attendance and is known for being a great team player. Melinda will begin on Monday, February 19th. Until then, Pat will contact to manage substitutes (with all of her other duties).
Thank you for putting your sub needs into the system if you are unable to secure a sub on your own. Thank you to teams who have stepped up to help when we couldn't find a sub! Go Team Doss! Please be sure to TEXT Janna or Latrese is you are going to be out so that we can help Pat to ensure you have a sub. Again, if you are going to be out, please text me or Latrese.
PARENT CONFERENCES:
Parent Conference Day is February 19th. Please begin scheduling conferences with ALL struggling, refugee, and gifted and talented students. It is critical to make a concerted effort to reach out to all refugee families. If a translator is needed please email Bradford Hardie. He will arrange these services. In your GT conferences share your methods for differentiation and their progress in the current semester and goals for the remainder of the year.
If you are considering retention or placing a child for next year, be sure to document in ECST and have parents sign retention forms.
TELPAS UPDATES
TELPAS
Please refer to the dates below for TELPAS. We will provide you with a schedule for TELPAS writing samples and when they are due. We will include prompts you can use. Teachers will be responsible for collecting the samples and turning them into each child's folder in the office. If you turn in adequate samples, you will not have to complete the collection and verification training online.
A couple of new items this year:
1) 2-5th grades will complete the Reading AND Listening and Speaking domains online in a test setting. We are still hashing out a detailed scheduled to accommodate all students, but be aware we will be pulling students from class (see dates below).
2) Every grade level will need to rate 10% of their writing samples TWICE. The second rating will be completed by a different rater on your team.
For Monday's Calibration:
*GO TO THE TELPAS Online Training Center: https://tx.scoring.pearsonassessments.com/scoring/
**You need to have created an account before you do calibration. Go to sign-up.
Keyword is_training2018_. Save your username and password.
Important Dates:
Feb 12th TELPAS Writing Calibration
Feb 12th Writing Collection starts
Feb 13th 2nd Calibration (for those who didn't pass the first calibration)
Feb 20-22 TELPAS online tutorials for students
Feb 27th - Mar 2nd TELPAS Online Testing for grades 2-5 (Reading, Listening, and Speaking)
Mar 8th Writing collections due
PPfT SIGN-UP
It's time to knock out our spring PPFT scheduled observations!
Please see email from Janna to see who is doing your spring evaluation. If Mr. Hardie is your spring evaluator, no need to read the rest of the email. He has already contacted you.
For Smith and Griffin:
A PPFT sign up will be sent to you shortly via email on a Google Document.
Please sign up for 3 dates / times on the google doc.
Our goal is to have all of the PPfT observations completed prior to spring break.
On the google doc, we will highlight the option that you submitted that fits into our schedule. Then, we will send you a calendar invite.
We see your strong instructional efforts everyday! We know how you go to bat to work with every single child. You know your curriculum. You know your data! You have strong classroom management! We look forward to seeing you in action on your formal observation and know that we will see great things!
Here are a couple of tips for a stellar observation:
Lesson Plan: Utilize the rubric to develop your lesson plan. Provide a lesson plan to us before the observation. Key points to have in the lesson plan include:
- What are you teaching (which TEK) ?
- How are you assessing all students for understanding on the objective that you are teaching?
- How you are differentiating for your students (SPED, 504, ELL)?
Time Frame: The observation is only 30 minutes. Due to the time restraints, it's best NOT include good news or other SEL work. We LOVE to see your SEL work!! We LOVE to see you using your CKH techniques. Those are Doss values! But, for your formal evaluation, we want to see a TEK aligned lesson, assessment, and feedback.
Thanks for your hard work! If you want to meet prior to your observation, we are happy to meet with you.
BOOKSPRING READ-A-THON
The BookSpring Read-a-Thon has officially ended. Please begin collecting your students envelopes if they have them to turn in to you. The big yellow envelope with your name on it (and all your students envelopes inside) is due to the library Tuesday, Feb 13th in the morning! The BookSpring coordinator for Austin is picking them up before lunch. If you have them Monday - go ahead and send them down. Remind your students to get to you when they can so we have all to turn into the BookSpring representative.
Few more tidbits of information:
1) Anyone can still register online. It’s not too late! Just have them write their online registration ID# on their envelope.
2) Students can now enter their total “Pages Read” and “Minutes Read” online as well.
They just need to login, click on ‘My Account’, and click on ‘Edit My Info’. Then they’ll see the ‘Pages Read’ and ‘Minutes Read’ fields where they can enter their total reading. If a student enters how much they read online and only got online donations, then they don’t have to turn in a paper envelope at all.
Please let me know if you have questions - kimbyintex@yahoo.com
Thanks so much! We will find out who won the pizza party and other prizes soon.

Everyone at Doss should be able to make the copies they need for great instruction. Please think twice about what you do or don't need copies of to support great instruction at Doss.
