LMASD Newsletter
September 22, 2020
LMASD Families,
This past week, we saw a dramatic spike in positive COVID-19 cases across Jefferson County which we are monitoring very closely. Due to this, I have been consulting with the county health department regarding the need to shift to virtual instruction across the district and will monitor whether that trend will continue to increase. Fortunately for now, we are able to maintain our daily operations in the district and have only had a few isolated cases of COVID. While there are certain metrics that I watch more closely than others, I do take into account all the factors that affect the Lake Mills community.
There are many factors we will take into consideration before making the decision to switch to virtual learning district-wide, such as community spread, positive cases within our community or schools, or the inability to maintain our current levels of staffing due to illness. As parents, please be prepared if that need is warranted.
We will remain diligent with the safety practices we have in place which include wearing face coverings, maintaining social distancing wherever possible, keeping students in cohorts at the middle and elementary schools, deep cleaning each night, and frequent hand washing.
Thank you to our dedicated staff who are working around the clock to teach in-person and virtually. They have given up precious time with their families to ensure the students of Lake Mills have an exemplary education. If you haven’t done so already, please thank them and show your appreciation! It really means a lot!
Sincerely,
Dr. Tonya Olson

Many thanks to CAPE (Citizens Advocates for Public Education) for helping us advocate for practices that will help keep our schools open and safe for staff and students. The more we work together, the more the whole community benefits. Help us commit to the Three W’s: Watch your distance, Wash your hands, and Wear a face covering.
