Message from the Principal
Dear Henry Ford Families,
I hope that you enjoyed the week off and students are rested and ready to get to work! March is looking to be another busy month. Students in grades 1st through 5th will take their third iReady benchmark exam in Reading and Math. These exams are one of the many ways we measure growth. If you have not seen your child's fall and/or winter scores, please reach out to their teacher. We encourage students to do their best on these exams so that we have accurate data. Our goal is for every student to demonstrate at least 50% growth on each assessment. The results help us get a better understanding of what is working and areas for school wide and individual growth.
Parent teacher conferences are being held the week of March 14th. Students have minimum day schedules to accommodate conferences. During our fall conferences, every family is encouraged to attend. It is an opportunity to meet the teacher, ask questions and learn about the class. Spring conferences are generally designed to support students who are not yet on grade level or need other assistance. Accordingly, parents/guardians will only be receiving an invitation for a conference if the teacher feels it is important to meet. If you do not receive an invitation and want to meet with you child's teacher, you are more than welcome to reach out to request one. Teachers now have the option to meet in person or virtually. They will work with you to make a decision that meets everyone's needs.
Finally, the Scholastic Book Fair and the Golden Sneaker Contest are taking place the week of March 7th.The Book Fair is going to be held in the library. Due to Covid, only students and cleared volunteers can attend. Every class will have the opportunity to go "shopping" during their regular weekly library time, as well as after school. The Golden Sneaker Contest, or Walk to School Week, is designed to encourage students to walk or bike to school. Teachers will keep track of how students arrive to school all five days, and the class with the highest percentage of walkers/bikers gets to keep a Golden Sneaker in their classroom!
Project Cornerstone Corner
Thank you to our parent volunteers for showing up every month to facilitate lessons. Having a common language to use when resolving conflicts sets kids up for success. Being able to communicate how we feel and what we need, in a respectful manner, is a lifelong practice. Feel free to practice the I Message at home.

Important Information
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
School-wide Composting: Henry Ford is going to start composting on April 4th. Volunteers are needed all week during lunch to help students sort their food into the proper bins. Lunch starts at 11:30 and ends at 1:15. Please contact Ms. Knopf via ClassDojo or at jknopf@rcsdk8.net if you are able to help.
City Trees: Thank you to Megan Schechter for connecting Henry Ford with City Trees. They are going to plant 35 trees on our campus! Planting is scheduled for April 30th from 1:00 - 5:00. We need at least 30 volunteers. More information and a link to sign up to help will be sent home and posted on ClassDojo soon. Tree planting is an outdoor event and is taking place on a Saturday so volunteers do not have to be on the district volunteer list.
MakerSpace: PTA is looking for volunteers to help run our MakerSpace during lunchtime. Please reach out to Becky Fouch, president@henryfordpta.org, for more information.
