First Six Weeks Parent Newsletter
2020-2021
PJHS Mission Statement
Note from the Principal- Jennifer Garcia
Dear Parents,
As the commencement of our second six weeks is upon us, we would like to remind parents of the importance of online safety. Please monitor and talk your child about websites, emails and apps in which they might have access. As long as you own the device, you have the right to monitor its content. As a school district, we monitor all online activity accessed through our devices, including Chromebooks checked out to our students. Speaking of Chromebooks, please remind your child to bring their Chromebook each day fully charged for learning.
If this is your first middle school child, surely you are finding each of their unique personalities emerging. To stay connected with your child, try some suggestions from "The Middle Years" parent newsletter:
- Sharing an activity together: find an activity that you enjoy together, like shooting basketball hoops, scrapbooking, working on puzzles, yoga, etc. You do not have to be conversing to stay connected with your teen.
- Stop to listen: If it is a rarity for your child to share problems, ideas or day's events, try to stop what you are doing and listen. Your child will notice that you find their day important.
- Phrase questions carefully: If you ask, "How was your day?", you may not get much of an answer. Try asking, "What's the most interesting thing you're learning in history?" Specific questions like this will start real conversations and get your teen talking more.
- Read the same book: try purchasing or borrowing books you can read together. Discuss each chapter, characters and unique aspects of the book. You will find you have much in common with your middle schooler.
- Stay in tune: follow the same websites, pages and blogs that your teen follows. This will help keep parents current with latest trends and give great substance to conversations.
We cherish our students and their families. Please stay safe and please contact us if you or your child need assistance. If we can't help you, we will direct you to someone who can.
