Developing Lifelong Learners Who Grow, Lead and Inspire

Music is Amazing

Please read the article below about how music and music education experiences are proving to have a positive effect on students. As we finalize our Fund for the Arts Campaign at Southside there is not better time than to know the current research on the reasons students NEED music in their day!

Use the link to Padlet below the article to post ONE VIP (Very Important Part). Remember on Padlet you just have to click on the wall to get a "post it" ready for our thoughts. Feel free to leave any great ideas that came to mind for Southside students while reading as well!

Teacher LeaderS Feature

Thank you to every staff member for the part you have played in gathering evidence of current programming in our Arts & Humanities, Practical Living/Career Studies, Writing and K-3 Primary Programs. In addition to "gathering" you have also created a vision of what we want to offer our students at Southside in these academic areas. When we moved from paper pencil testing in these areas to Program Review, it required true commitment to students to grow the programs and not just "jump through the hoops" of completing the required review. From Day One of our work on Program Review, I have been super proud of the way our staff has tackled the work and kept students at the forefront of your thinking! Thank you.

Several teachers stepped up the first year to be "Program Review Chairs"--not really knowing the depth of the commitment. Three years later, the same teacher leaders are continuing to lead the work in these programs! They won't leave the post because they are truly invested in the work that is happening in our school in these areas! They have grown to become leaders by leading our staff to self-assess, problem solve, prepare and participate in all areas of Program Review. Thank you to these TEACHER LEADERS and Program Review Chairs for all of their hard work:

Erin Jump/Makenzi Hunter: Arts&Humanities

Sara Fitzpatrick: Practical Living/Career Studies

Amanda Atkins/Kara Clark: Writing

Sylvia Starkey: K-3 Primary Program

Engineering Week at Southside

Engineering Picture Request

Southside Engineering Teachers,

I heard great thing about Engineering Week! I am so excited to hear that both kids and adults had fun learning. Could you please send me pictures of the all the phases of the process that you have? Ryan Allan and I are putting together a video this week that I will be using across the state for a Design Thinking Workshop. Don’t worry…I’ll give your engineers all the credit.

Thanks for making it a great week for kids,

Susan Dugle
