TMA Parent Weekly News
Home of the Stars
October 30, 2020
This was a "goulish" week to say the least. Thankfully, our families and staff that were evacuated on Monday are safely back in their homes.
HUGE thanks to Kori Lee & Christine Kim, along with their committee for organizing an amazing Red Ribbon Week. We had fun AND learned about making healthy choices! Our students asked if they could have a "do-over" for Pajama Day since school was canceled due to the fires. Of course I'm game...December 18, is Pajama Day "Take-two!"
Happy Birthday, "Miss Linda!" If you walk to TMA, you likely know our crossing guard, Linda. Let's shower her with some birthday love next week for helping to keep all of us safe.
Adams Gate Closed- The community near Adams Gate is having some road work done next week. The Adams Gate will be CLOSED from 11/2-11/6.
Entry/Exit Gates- All students are to continue to use their assigned entry and exit gates. Our signs were casualties of the winds, but sturdier/permanent signs are on order.
Distance Learning Students returning on 11/9- Please be sure to review the video and information below if your child is returning to campus for hybrid instruction on Nov. 9. These safety measures are in place to keep us all safe and must be followed by all.
Halloween Photos? If you have pictures of your child in his/her Halloween Costume, please upload them HERE. I am working on a video to share with our TMA community since we were unable to hold our Annual Halloween Parade this year.
Dino Detour- Since the Dino Dash is taking a detour this year, TMA will be hosting our very own Dino Detour! Please join us Saturday, November 14 @ 9:00 am. Wear your Dino Detour shirt and some comfy shoes. We will do the kids' 2K around our field starting at 9:15 am. What healthier way to start your Saturday than with an outdoor walk with family & friends. More details to come! You can officially register at www.dinosaurdash.net
Have a safe weekend!

For the second drawing, the cut-off date is Oct. 31st for a drawing the following week.
WE CAN DO THIS!
Illness at School: When must we send a child home?
This information will help you understand when we are required to send a child home from school. We must follow these guidelines in order to keep all of our students and staff as safe as possible, and keep our schools open. *Please see chart below.
TUSD MENTAL HEALTH FAMILY NEWSLETTER
Our Mental Health Team has launched a newsletter, Building Resilience. This newsletter will come out monthly and should be shared with families and staff. Please include the link to the newsletter in your school community communication next week. We are excited to provide information and helpful tips that can be used at home and in the classroom.
Social Emotional Learning is Critical!
For Distance Learning Students Returning to Campus on Nov. 9
Please Read!
Welcome Back video from Mrs. Carreras- It's certainly not professional, but full on info.
Slide Deck w/ Return Plan & Helpful Links- Shared with the PTO Board this morning.
We are preparing for students to return to campus on 9/24. It is critically important for parents to be familiar with the TUSD Opening and Safety Plan. If you have not yet read it in its entirety, please take the time to do so.
Home Wellness Checks- All families are expected to complete a "Wellness Check" prior to coming to school each morning. This Video explains how to conduct your daily wellness check for your child.
Please watch this video with your child- Hand washing video for kids
Covid-19 video for kids TUSD Video for Kids
Our daily schedule will change slightly for all students when Hybrid learning begins on 9/24. Click Here to view the daily schedule for both Hybrid and Virtual students. *Students may enter campus up to 10 minutes prior to their session starting.
Entering/Exiting Campus- Students are assigned to Entry and Exit gates based on the location of their classroom. Please consult this map to determine which entry exit gate your child(ren) will use. *The parking lot will only be available for "drive-thru" drop off for the AM session. AM pick-up and both PM drop-off/pick-up, cars will not be able to enter the driveway, and will need to park on our nearby streets. Please continue to be thoughtful of our neighbors.
Recess will be different than before, so we want parents to have a discussion with your child so they know what to expect. Cohorts of students may not intermingle. This means that when children go to recess, they will remain with their class in an assigned area of the playground. We are not sure if any play equipment will be available other than the jungle gym, which will be wiped down after each recess. I encourage you to brainstorm activities with your child that they can do that does not require sharing equipment, such as 4-corners, hopscotch, sidewalk chalk, jump rope, etc. For the time being, personal play items (with the exception of balls) may be brought to school, but cannot be shared. Please pack one or two small items only in a gallon size or smaller Ziplock bag. *See pictures of recess play zones below. *Equipment requirements will be updated prior to our return date, so stay tuned.
Uniforms- TMA is a uniform school, and the uniform policy will remain in place. *We will provide a grace period, however it is expected that students will be in uniform starting the week of October 5.
Campus access- Only staff and students will be allowed on campus. Yes, this means your children will say goodbye at the gate. Parents may call to make an appointment if you need to visit the office. Only one parent is allowed in the office at a time, so making an appointment will reduce wait time.
Breakfast/Lunch- Grab-n-go lunch will be available at dismissal each day in 3 locations (Adams Gate, driveway entrance & driveway exit). The Federal Govt. has approved a waiver allowing all children to participate if they need at no charge. If you do not want your child to take a lunch upon dismissal, just remind them to not take one.

This was a bit of a "gouling" week. Thankfully, our families and staff that were evacuated Monday, are safely back in their homes. On a positive note, THE DODGERS WON THE WORLD SERIES!!!!! Fan or not, in 2020, we celebrate the good things!
Happy Birthday, Miss Linda! If you walk to TMA, you probably know our very special crossing guard, "Miss Linda." She had a birthday on Thursday 10/29. Let's shower her with some TMA love this coming week.
Adams Gate Closed: The Adams Gate community is having some street work done next week. Adams Gate will be closed 11/4-11/8 for drop-off and pick-up.
Entry/Exit Gates: Students are to continue using their assigned entry/exit gates (Red, Yellow, Blue & Green). This is to limit cohort exposure on campus. Our original signs were casualties of this week's high winds, but more sturdy/permanent signs are on order. Please inform anyone who drops off or picks up your child.
Halloween Costume Video: Coming Soon! We know the Annual Halloween Costume Parade is an important tradition for our TMA community. In an effort to continue this tradition, I will be creating a video of our students and staff. Please upload any photos you took of both our hybrid and virtual students HERE.
Have a safe weekend,
Mrs. Carreras
