Jarrell Elementary Newsletter - September 5, 2022

Greetings JES Community!

Dear Cougar Families,

Our first community event is coming this week! We are so excited to have our grandparents join us for a delicious lunch on Friday, September 9th. See below for all of the details!

We have received so many compliments from substitutes and guests on our campus about the manners and behavior of our students. I have been told that our students and teachers are friendly, helpful and polite. We have always know this, but it is so nice to hear! Thank you, parents, for your commitment to raising outstanding humans!

Learning is in full swing! Be sure to check out the snippets below to see the learning that is happening in all grade levels. For more detailed information you can check out the district website for more information on our Cougar Curriculum.

Please know that we are here to support and help in any way we can. Do not hesitate to call us with your questions, suggestions or concerns. Your children and their experience and learning here at Jarrell Elementary is our primary purpose.

With gratitude,

Lara Hutchinson

Proud Jarrell Elementary Principal

IMPORTANT Daily Deadlines!

In order for our systems to run smoothly and safely, please observe the following daily deadlines times.

7:30 a.m. The back doors automatically lock, and you will need to drive around and walk your child in to the building. PLEASE DO NOT DROP-OFF STUDENTS AFTER 7:30. They must be signed in by a parent or guardian.

1:30 p.m. ALL transportation changes must be made by 1:30 by emailing or calling Stephanie Garcia at (512)-746-2170 or

2:30 p.m. Any student checking out early for an appointment, must be picked up prior to 2:30. Our dismissal processes are already in place by that time making it very difficult to change.

At Jarrell Elementary, we are constantly assessing our systems to make improvements for safety, convenience, and time. Observing these cut-off times helps us ensure the smoothest possible processes! Thank you!

Morning Arrival Safety

Our CAR RIDER drop-off line in the morning is very efficient! We highly recommend using this method if your child does not walk or ride the bus to school.

You may choose to park in front of our building and walk your child all the way to the front porch of the building. Please do NOT drop your child off along the front street. This is very unsafe for your student.

Students and their parents should use the stairs by the flags leading to the crosswalk and not walk through our front parking lot.

Bike Rider Safety

BIKE RIDERS must get off their bikes at the safety cones and walk their bike to the racks. Please go over this expectation with your student.

There is a lot of car and bus traffic in this area, and it is not safe for students to remain on their bikes.

Once a student arrives on campus, their bike should be placed on the bike racks and left there until it is time to ride home.

Raptor Access on Campus

Raptor is our VISITOR MANAGEMENT SYSTEM. Once the ID of an adult has been scanned and entered in the Raptor System on our campus, we are able to enter your name and pre-print a Visitor Badge for you.

Come by our front office with your ID early to be entered into our system for events like Grandparent's Day, Thanksgiving Feast, Christmas Parties, etc.

Bleacher Creature is BACK!

BLEACHER CREATURE JERSEYS are for 5th graders and younger!

What do you get when you wear your Bleacher Creature jersey?

  • Free entry to ALL home football, volleyball, baseball and basketball games
  • Run the field at half-time during home football games
  • Stand on the sidelines at the volleyball/basketball games to hi-five the players prior to game time

The online store has a HARD deadline of September 11th to order. Please note, after the 11th, the store will not open back up. JHS Athletic Boosters will have a very small selection of bleacher creature shirts in the event you miss the notifications but once they are out, they are out.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to reach out via email at:

Jarrell Elementary Student Recognition at the SCHOOL BOARD Meeting!

Each month one student will be recognized at the SCHOOL BOARD MEETING for their brief essay about the character trait of the month.

JES has been chosen to start with COMPASSION in the month of September.

Your student can write a short (2-3 paragraphs) essay about what the trait of compassion means to them, why it's important, and how they apply it in their lives and at school. Our youngest writers can dictate to a parent their thoughts and ideas if you would like to have them participate.

Please send all submissions to your child's classroom teacher by Monday, September 9th! Be sure to include your child's name, age, grade level and teacher!

We will let you know by phone if your child's submission has been selected to be read at the Wednesday, September 14th SCHOOL BOARD meeting from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the JISD Annex.

After School Enrichment Coming to Jarrell Elementary!

Our families have asked for it, and it is here! After school enrichment opportunities are coming to JES for our students!

The YMCA will be offering FLAG FOOTBALL on Tuesdays from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. and DANCE AND CHEER on Wednesdays from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. beginning October 3rd - November 7th. More information about registering your child will be coming home soon. There are fees associated with this program.

The BOY SCOUTS of AMERICA will be launching a scout troup for our 1st - 5th graders here at Jarrell Elementary. There will be an information meeting on Tuesday, September 27th from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. in the Jarrell Elementary cafeteria.

The GOOD NEWS BIBLE CLUB will be having an after school bible club on Mondays from 3:00 - 4:00 beginning on September 19th. For more information, please pick up a flyer in the front office or call, and we can have one sent home in your child's backpack.

Lunch with your child

Thank you for allowing us to have these two weeks to ensure our students know the routines and procedures in our cafeteria. This is also an important time for your child to get to know their classmates and build friendships.

You may have lunch with your child this week on Wednesday, September 7th. Please be sure to have your ID with you when you come to the office to check in. Please note that due to limited seating in the cafeteria, guests and their students may be asked to sit at a special table for students and their guests.

Breakfast is closed to outside guests.

Thank you!

You can send a check or cash to school to put money on your child's lunch account. You can also use the online APP and program School Cafe. The link is below as well as the directions.
