Classroom Update
Dispatches from the Fifth Grade
Looking Ahead
Hello, Parents!
As difficult as it is to believe, February is upon us. Unsurprisingly, my list of upcoming events and projects is growing longer every day, so it seemed a prudent time to update you on what's ahead.
As always, please feel free to contact me anytime with questions, concerns, or suggestions.
Allons-y!
David
Public Speaking
We have introduced public speaking this week in class. Students have been given a packet with dates and expectations for choosing, preparing, and presenting their pieces. Below are the important dates to keep in mind:
Friday, Feb. 8th: Approved, typed selections submitted
Week of March 4th: Recitals in homerooms
Tuesday, March 12th: Finals in Locke Center
Freedom Concert
The Freedom Concert is next week! We've been very busy with extra rehearsals these past few weeks, and the students are excited to perform. Here are the dates and times for the concert:
Wednesday, February 13th at 8:30AM: Freedom Concert for parents and MS students
Wednesday, February 13th at 11:00AM: Freedom Concert for LS students
Monday Morning Meetings
Each Monday, the fifth grade meets in Locke Center for announcements and grade-level conversations. In addition, each student in the grade is asked to present something about themselves. They can create a slide presentation, make a skit, play an instrument, sing a song, etc. Our homeroom will be presenting over the next three weeks. Students have been busy creating videos, slideshows, and other presentations. I am looking forward to learning something new about each of them! :)
Digital Portfolios
This year, our class is piloting digital portfolios to allow students to curate and reflect upon work that is representative of their best efforts. We are using Google Sites to do this, and students are learning how to create webpages, add media files, and design their template. Their portfolios are still in embryonic form, but we are quickly building momentum!
