Audubon Updates

March 2021

Notes From the Principal

Happy March!

It is hard to believe that we are almost one full year into COVID and all that has changed as a result of it. This time last year we were wrapping up Dr. Seuss week and planning for all the end of year activities that we would normally do. One year later we are getting ready to reopen our doors for five-day, in-person instruction. While we still have different protocols and precautions we are taking as part of the pandemic we are also starting to have some of our school activities return (see below for info on Dr. Seuss Week March 15-19).

Through all of the ups and downs of the past year I commend and thank all of our community, staff, parents and students for continuing to move forward and make the best of a tough situation. We have such an amazing community and your resilience has been what has made this work.

As we look at the fourth quarter we still have some work to do and things to accomplish. This will be a quarter filled with many different things happening and before we know it the school year will be over. I look forward to working with everyone to make this our best part of the school year yet!

Wishing you health and wellness,

Aaron Ford

District Facilities Master Plan - Meeting on March 11th

School District 11 is in the final planning stages of their new Facilities Master Plan. This plan includes upgrades to some buildings, complete remodels, new buildings and some schools being repurposed in different ways.

Audubon is scheduled to be part of this long term plan by having major renovations and upgrades in phase 2 of the plan.

We have invited the district facilities team to share their information at our School Accountability Meeting on March 11th. This meeting is set to begin at 4:00 on WebEx. You will be able to hear about the entire plan and the potential impacts to Audubon and our community.

Click here for the link to join the meeting and join us in the conversation.

Class Pictures - March 12

We have our rescheduled class picture day set for Friday, March 12. Weather permitting, we plan to take our class pictures outside so that we can follow all COVID protocols and include our remote students if they would like to join us. Order envelopes and information will be available the first week of March for families to order this years class picture.

Celebrate Dr. Seuss Week - March 15 - 19

Audubon will be celebrating Dr. Seuss week from March 15 - 19. We postponed it this year so that we could do it when we were back to a 5-day week and enjoy our celebration a little longer.

You can click here to see the different theme days for the week and some of the ways we will celebrate.

Yearbook Photos

Your photos are still needed to help us with our yearbook this year. If you have fun photos of students participating in learning, working in their learning environment, or just other school friendly photos, please think about sharing those with us and we may add them to our 2020-2021 yearbook. You can send pictures directly to Mrs. Garza at vanessa.garza@d11.org.

Thank you for helping contribute to our 2020-2021 yearbook.

March School Closures

We will have a couple of school closures during the month of March.

  • March 8 - Teacher Work Day - No Students
  • March 9 - Data Collaboration Day - No Students
  • March 22 - 26 - Spring Break - School Closed

Meal Options - Free For Children of All Ages

Throughout the rest of the 2020-2021 school year the federal government will be continuing to provide daily breakfast and lunch for all children ages 0-18. While we are having in-person learning we will have daily breakfast and lunch meals available for all of our in-person students. For families that are continuing to participate in remote learning lunch will be offered daily at any of our district high schools from 11:00 - 12:30. When picking up these meals you will also have a breakfast in your "grab-and-go" bad for the following day. These meals are available on any day that we have school.

Asynchronous Monday's

School District 11 is moving away from the current calendar that includes Asynchronous Mondays for all students. Beginning March 10, students will have in-person or remote instruction 5-days per week. This schedule will be in place for the remainder of the 2020-2021 school year.

2021-2022 School Year Calendar

The district has approved the 2021-2022 school calendar. Next year we will begin the school year for students on Monday, August 16. You can see the entire school year calendar by clicking here.

Box Tops for Education

As we have become a more digital society some of our traditional school programs have had a hard time keeping up. One of those programs that has made it into the digital world is our Box Tops for Education program that gives money back to schools for certain purchases you make in your daily life. You no longer have to cut out the Box Tops and send them into the school - now there is an app that you can use to scan your receipt and it will automatically track the Box Tops and send money back to our school.

The website with information about how to get the app, set goals and help make a difference in our school is available by clicking here.

Technology Support

If you are ever needing technology support during our remote learning time, or even when we get back to in-person, you can reach out to Mr. Watson. His contact information is:

Mr. Watson is ready and willing to support in any way that he can.

Thank you to everyone. We will get through this together!
