Captain's Log
PASS CHRISTIAN PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT
AHOY, PIRATES!
Today, I heard Kearn Crockett Cherry speak about her book, and she said something that resonated with me. "If you want success, you have to take it....it won't just come to you." It is that simple; if we want to continue our legacy of eXcellence, we have to take it! How do we -- "take it." We take it every day that we walk into our classrooms and teach incredible lessons that align with our standards. We take it when we provide work that is challenging. We take it when we refuse to let students fail. We take it when we come to Pirate Nation and give our best from our respective positions. WE take it when we hold ourselves and others accountable. You see, nothing in our past was by accident - every Level 5, every A was taken! WE did the work! WE made the sacrifices! WE worked as a team! WE believed in our children so that they could believe in themselves!
Here we are; standing at the doors of opportunity. In two weeks, our students will participate in their end-of-year assessments. It will be their opportunity to show off your hard work. I do not know about you but, I am eXcited to see what they have learned over the 8 months we will have had them. Each year makes them stronger and more prepared for what awaits them on the other side of our graduation stage. Now, is not the time to stop short; keep your heads down....stay with it and lean in. Keep writing detailed lesson plans, teaching engaging lessons, and holding students accountable for their behavior. This is how we as Pirates will finish strong and take our success! Let's do this!!! Cue Rocky theme music....See you in the classrooms!
With that, I submit the Captain’s Log. #committedtoeXcellence #eXcellencemarksthespot #finishstrong cje

State Pay Raise
Pending the Governor's signature and board approval, new contracts for those impacted by state issued the pay raise (teachers, librarians, counselors, instructional coaches, interventionists, teacher assistants, etc.). Certified: $2,250.00 ($1,500 from the state and $750 from the district). This change will make our teachers the highest paid on the MS Gulf Coast. Teacher assistants: $1,500, which will be evident in the hourly salary schedule. To ensure we meet the $1,500, we will eXceed the amount by approximately $49. We have high eXpectations, and we are proposing the salary match that which is required.

“Pass Christian High School was selected to participate in the Gilder Lehrman Institute’s Hamilton Education Program on March 29, 2019! Thanks to a partnership between Hamilton, local donors, and the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, the organization was able to offer your high school (grades 9 - 12) American history and/or related high school classes exclusive participation in the program, which combined Founding Era classroom resources, document-based student projects, and a special student matinee at the Saenger Theatre.”
