Learning Labs and Diving into the Ocean Deep

What lives in the Ocean? What do sea turtles eat? How to seahorses swim? Why is the water salty? These are some of the questions that we will set out to answer in the next coming weeks as we explore the ocean. Students are enjoying the stories Over in the Ocean, I'm a Manatee, and One Lonely Seahorse. We have been listening to poetry about sea life written by Eric Carle as well. Next week we will begin graphing our favorite sea animal, examine and count sand dollars, starfish, and seashells, and learn Spanish words for our favorite sea animals!

What's that vibe you feel through the school. "AH its the sound of Reggae Mon". Students are enjoying listening to Reggae favorites and learning some new beats as well. Lucas stated, "hey I know this is Bob Marley, Buffalo Soldier!!" Seems as if Reggae inspires us all-- the young and the not so young at heart! We will use the colors of the Jamaican Flag to create Reggae inspired art.

Safety First Reminders

Signing your child in and out each day is extremely important for the safety of your child. Not only does this give an accurate record of who is signing your child in but in the event of emergency the computer must have efficient record. Teachers use the computer to confirm the physical attendance each and every day ensuring that the numbers match. It is also a requirement by the Department of Education, Department of Children and Families, and TerraNichol Academy of the Arts. Students who are part of the state school readiness scholarship program and VPK must be signed in and out accurately each day as this effects payment and attendance in each program. Scholarship and VPK students must be signed in and out on the computer as well as the sheets every day. It is the parent responsibility to make sure that you are putting in your code and checking OK to complete check in. Doing the same at Check out is equally important for your child's attendance. If you do not check your child out it effects the record for the following day. Please take the time to follow through with this process accurately. It takes important time out of the daily rhythm that should be dedicated to our students to go through and ensure that everyone is accurately checked in. In addition your child should be checking themselves in using the License to Play. There are many days that the teaching team has checked the attendance bucket and none has checked themselves in using their license. Thank you for helping your child follow through with this routine. Following routines and taking responsibility is important for your child to learn and understand.
