District 103
Shield Testing Begins Next Week
Hello D103 Families,
We have partnered with SHIELD Illinois to provide saliva based COVID-19 tests to our schools. You are receiving this notice because you elected to be a part of the take home COVID testing program. Testing will begin next week on September 13, 2022.
What is SHIELD Illinois?
SHIELD Illinois is a University of Illinois program whose goal is to share the innovative, saliva-based COVID-19 test developed at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign with the rest of the state. The process requires individuals to simply deposit a small amount of saliva in a vial, which usually takes less than five minutes, and provides results within 24-48 hours of samples reaching a SHIELD Illinois lab.
Testing Schedule
Next Tuesday, September 13, 2022, your child will bring home two test kits, one for next week and one for the following week. After that, your child will bring home a set of four test kits per month. Students will return one kit per week with their saliva sample. Please watch this short video on how to collect a saliva sample. The video states that you need to attach a QR code to the sample bag. This has already been done for you.
Students in the Early Childhood program should bring their completed samples on Wednesday mornings each week. All other grades should bring their completed samples to school on Thursday mornings.
Testing instructions
Individuals should not eat, drink (including water), or chew gum within 60 minutes of providing a saliva sample. Doing any of these things within 60 minutes of providing a sample could produce an inconclusive result. Test results will be posted in the patient portal after the lab results are completed.
Create your SHIELD IL Portal account
In order to view test results, individuals need to create an account on the SHIELD IL portal. Please use the URL and Agency Code below to create your portal. If you are the parent or guardian of a minor(s) and wish to see their results, please first create a portal for yourself then add your minor(s) as dependents to your account.
