A Message from the Principal - May 30th
May 2023
May 30, 2023
Good Morning Families and Caregivers,
As we approach the final weeks of school, they are chock-full of learning, enrichment, and fun!
June 1st marks the date of both our Music Concert and Pride Night! We are looking forward to celebrating the accomplishments of all of our scholars! Additionally, our Book Fair will be up and running! Please remember to stop by and stock up on some summer reading material!
Pride Night Updates: We welcome families and students to this incredible evening to showcase all of the hard work and growth of our scholars. In some instances, your teacher may or may not be here. This is a great opportunity for students to be the teacher and share all that they are proud of. We do ask that families stay together and our scholars serve as your tour guide. This is also a great opportunity for students and families to take a peek at the upcoming year's classroom.
Step Up Day: On June 22nd, we will have Step-Up Day. This is an opportunity for each cohort of students to meet the next grade's teacher team. Scholars will not receive advanced notification of their teacher for the upcoming year until August. This is a district-wide approach.
We have author visits, field trips, and much more! Keep a close eye on the teacher's emails for info.
FPS Policy Updates (<< click to see Smore)
In addition to sharing the recently updated FPS Policies, the School Committee’s website was recently updated to include instructions for viewers to access the FPS Policy Manual in languages other than English. You can see those instructions here: https://www.framingham.k12.ma.us/Page/2659
Community Engagement Opportunities for Framingham Residents (<< click to see Smore)
There are currently several available opportunities for Framingham residents to help shape the near and long-term future of the city. While FPS Employees may not be eligible to participate in these committees, we wanted to share this information so that everyone is aware. The Smore contains details and application instructions.

Library Card Registration - Message from Mrs. Rothwell
Does your child have a library card?
Please make sure your student has their own library card with the Framingham Public Library (FPL), in preparation for summer reading and an upcoming field trip to McAuliffe Library. Permission slips and details to follow.
The FPL will now accept a digital library card registration form that parents/guardians can fill out for their student. Click here for the link to register your child for a library card.
Registering digitally is preferred but if you would rather fill out a paper form, attached are printable forms in English, Spanish and Portuguese.
Deadline: Please sign up by May 12th so your child will have their card in time for the field trip to the library.
Additional information can be obtained on the FPL website. Please contact your librarian directly with any questions: krothwell@framingham.k12.ma.us
Arrival and Dismissal Maps & Procedures
Attendance and Reporting your child absent:
Absence line: 508-626-9149
Call between 4:00 P. M. and 8:30 A.M. if your child is to be absent OR tardy.
Late students must report directly to the office upon arrival.
Dismissing a Student Early
A written request from a parent is necessary for ANY dismissal changes. Requests should be emailed to the classroom teacher and tlambert@framingham.k12.ma.us or brought into the school office before the start of the school day. No requests will be taken after 2:30pm unless it is an emergency. No student will be dismissed based on a telephone request.
Stay Hydrated
It is very important to drink plenty of water and stay hydrated throughout the day. All of our classrooms have water bottle fill stations. Please send your child to school with a water bottle, so they are able to fill their bottles and stay hydrated. If you are unable to provide a water bottle, please contact your child's teacher, and the office will provide a water bottle for your child.
Dear Families,
The character education theme of the month for May is “Compassion”. We have defined compassion as “Showing concern or empathy for others”. This month students will engage in lessons focused on working on understanding others’ feelings, and showing empathy and kindness to them. Showing compassion can be easy to do with people with whom we are close to, but students will learn the importance of showing compassion to all people they may encounter in their lives. Students will learn that choosing to show others compassion will bring more peace, happiness, and overall feelings of well being into their own lives as well as the lives of others. Through morning meetings, focused read-alouds, and social emotional learning blocks in their classrooms, students will learn about the importance of compassion. Students will work on recognizing others feelings, and practice acts of kindness, empathy, and compassion. We welcome families to engage in conversations with their children to strengthen their understanding of the importance compassion plays in their everyday lives. Here are some conversation starters that we are working on in class around Compassion!
- What is compassion?
- How do you show compassion?
- How do you feel when someone shows compassion or empathy towards you? Why?
- How does it make others feel to receive compassion?
- Why is showing compassion for others important?
- What does a classroom that shows compassion look like and sound like?
