Our Patriot Coders have been working so hard on their Coding Projects. Students are creating their own mazes, educational games, and story lines through code. During Coding Club, students become innovators and designers as each of their projects are an original piece of work! Patriot Coders are beginning to prepare their new projects for the Klein Coding EXPO in April and are excited to meet and collaborate with other young coders like themselves.

Name That Book
Friday, January 11, Mittelstädt held our first annual campus competition for “Name that Book”. 3rd – 5th grade students were challenged to read a district list of 25 books. At the competition, a quote was read aloud, and each team was given 30 seconds to come up with the book title to match the quote. We had three teams coached by Laura Bass, Carrie Jackson, and Rachel Bullen. Eight students will advance to the district competition at Klein Cain High School Saturday, February 2nd. A special thank you to campus judges Shari Squiers and Melanie Willis.
5th Grade Student Council
We are excited to present our 2018-2019 Student Council members from Mittelstadt Elementary. This is our second year and the response this year was so exciting. We have grown and have 18 official members. We have kicked this year off with a bang as we are already planning our fundraisers and determining the needs of our school. The representatives have taken a very active stance with interviewing teachers on their needs and discussing with other students what they see day to day in our school. We have very big goals this year and look forward to achieving them through hard work and dedication. Be on the lookout for upcoming events so you can help Mittelstadt STUCO reach their goals!

Research shows that children who are in school most of the time learn more. Research also shows that being late for school can hurt a child's learning. A student who is 10 minutes late every day will miss 30 hours of instruction during the school year! Your child's success in school depends on having a solid educational background, one that can only be gained through regular school attendance.
Here's how you can improve your child's school attendance:
- Show your child why education is important. Give specific examples of how education helps people succeed.
- Talk with your child about the importance of attending school regularly.
- Avoid scheduling appointments or family trips during school hours.
- Support school rules and consequences for skipping class and being tardy.
- Lead by example! Let your children see you attend work or other responsibilities regularly and on time.
Together, parents and schools can help students develop good attitudes about attendance. Teaching children to value education is doing them a lifelong favor.
5th Grade Appreciation
For parents of all 5th graders!
Walker Dismissal Procedures
Help us dismiss all of our students as quickly and safely as possible.
Morning Drop Off
Do you know what time you can drop off your child? Do they know where they should go if they get here before 7:50? The answers are here!
Car Pool Tags
If you do not have your car pool tag, please notify your child's teacher. Beginning Monday, September 10th, students will not be loaded into cars without a tag. If you do not have a car pool tag and come to pick up your child, you will need to park in the parking lot, go into the front office and show your ID. This helps ensure student safety and keeps our car pool line running smoothly. We appreciate your help and cooperation.
Attendance Memos- 2018-2019
ATTENDANCE TIMES & DOCTOR NOTES
Attendance is taken at 9:45 a.m. Please call the front office at 832-484-6700 to notify the school that your child will not be in attendance that day. Please remember to obtain a note from the doctor should your child require medical attention when he/she is absent. Within 5 days of your child’s return to school from an absence, he/she should bring a doctor/parent note to the attendance office stating reason for absence from school.
Your child is considered tardy after the 8:05 bell. If your child has 10 or more tardies it could result in your child not being promoted to the next grade.
A PHONE CALL IS NOT CONSIDERED A VALID NOTIFICATION FOR AN ABSENCE, you must provide a parent note or medical note. Your child will be considered truant if you do not notify the school of the absence within 5 days of their return to school.
If you pick up your child for an appointment and your child is returning to school or the appointment is before school, please remember to ask for a doctor’s note to submit to our attendance office.
EARLY DISMISSAL PASS
If you will be picking up your child for an appointment or early dismissal please send a note with him/her the day of the appointment. Changes in your child’s dismissal cannot be made after 2:30 Pm. Early dismissal after 3:00 pm will not be possible without prior written notification.
We will be checking all ID’s for Early Dismissals. Please bring ID with you when you come into the office. We will not be able to release your child without proper ID. Thank you for your help and understanding in this matter.
Please assist us in the handling of custody related issues. It is the responsibility of the parent to provide the principal a certified copy of any court order affecting any other person’s right to their children. Should you have any questions please call Cynthia Levy, Principal, at 832-484-6710.
Important things to know
Welcome to our special Patriot Learning Community. I have had the privilege of leading Mittelstädt over the past 28 years! I am so thankful to be able to work alongside the best teachers, students and parents who support and expect the very best from their students/children.
Student Handbook – The Student Handbook is on the Klein website at www.Kleinisd.net. Please go over the Student Handbook carefully with your child as it contains the philosophy and policies of Klein ISD.
Registration – All registration is online at www.Kleinisd.net. Once you've completed the on-line registration, please call (832) 484-6700 to make an appointment to complete your enrollment.
Daycare Pickup – Daycares who wish to use the daycare lane must be picking up a minimum of 4 students and must be in a clearly marked vehicle. Daycares providers who use personal vehicles to pick up less than 4 students will need to go through the carpool lane.
Early Dismissal -If you need to take your child out early from school for any reason, please send a note to your child’s teacher, so that the office can write an early dismissal. In the case of a last minute emergency, please call before 2:45 so we can get your child ready to leave. Students must check out through the office. You will not be allowed to take your child from the classroom.
School Hours – The school hours for elementary students are from 8:05 to 3:25. Students will be dismissed to class at 7:50. Note the tardy bell will ring at 8:05 in line with the District’s schedule. The morning pre-kindergarten hours are from 7:50 to 11:05 a.m., and the afternoon pre-kindergarten hours are from 12:15 to 3:25 p.m. KIndergarten, 1st, and 3rd graders wait in the cafeteria., while 2nd, 4th, and 5th graders wait in the gym for teachers to pick them up at 7:50. Car riders may be dropped off at the front office entrance. The bus circle is reserved for buses and daycare buses only. We would appreciate it greatly if you would encourage your child not to arrive prior to the 7:50 a.m. bell.
Medication Policy - All prescription medication must be delivered to the clinic by the parent or guardian. Medications are not sent home with students. This procedure is being implemented for the safety of your child. We hope that this will not cause too much inconvenience to you. It is our goal to keep your child as safe as possible. Please call Tammy Zappas or Cassie Mitchell, the Mittelstädt Nurses, at 832-484-6714 if there is anything she can do to assist you.
Absence Policy REMINDER – A note stating the reason for an absence MUST be turned in within 5 days of returning to school. It is not necessary for a student to have a note from a doctor each time he/she is ill. However, if the number of absences exceeds 18 days in a school year, and if medical reasons are given for an additional absence, a doctor’s note will be required for the day(s) of illness in order to receive academic credit unless waived by the attendance committee.
Cell Phone Policy - If a student is using a cell phone during the school day or on a school bus to and from school, the school employee observing the student’s use of the device will confiscate it. The school employee will turn over the device to a Mittelstadt administrator. The parent will be notified by the school to pick up the device from the front office during school hours. There will not be a charge for the 1st offense; however, a charge of $15.00 will apply if retrieved again. Cash will be the only acceptable form of payment.
