Memorial Day
The U.S. flag is raised to the top of the pole in the morning and then lowered halfway down the pole, or half-mast. This is to remember all the men and women who have sacrificed their lives for our great nation.
Volunteer you!
Through volunteering, younger generations have fun helping older generations, while they unite to help fill the generational gap.
You can celebrate and participate in Join Hands Day by:
- Helping an elderly neighbor clean their yard or tend to their garden.
- Volunteering at an assisted living home
- Learning to sew or knit from an elderly community member.
- Take a plate of cookies or brownies and stop by to visit with an elderly neighbor.
Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive Day is the largest food drive day of the year. On the second Saturday in May, the National Association of Letter Carriers will pick up donated non-perishable foods when they drop off your mail. They will then sort and redistribute those foods to local food banks. You can make a difference by volunteering to help sort foods at your local post office or by collecting from your neighbors and dropping off the donations
Fun YOU!

National Limerick Day
Observed annually on May 12th, National Limerick Day celebrates the birthday of English artist, illustrator, author, and poet Edward Lear (May 12, 1812 – Jan. 29, 1888). Limmerick poems were popularized by Edward Lear’s book “Book of Nonsense” in 1846.
Limmerick poems consist of one stanza with five lines with an aabba rhyme scheme that are nonsensical and bouncy.
A circus performer named Brian
Once smiled as he rode on a lion.
They came back from the ride,
But with Brian inside,
And the smile on the face of the lion.
