Early life

Alex Haley was an American writer and wrote about historical fiction and the struggles of African Americans. He was born on August 11, 1921, in ithaca New York. He died in seattle, Washington on Feb 10, 1992. His dad was a ww1 veteran and his mom was a teacher. He had a very happy and bright future as a child. Haley graduated from high school at the age of 15 and went to Alcorn A&M college. After one year their he transferred to Elizabeth City State Teachers College in North Carolina. At the age of 17 he quit school and enrolled in the coast guard. He served for 20 years in the field of a journalist.
He received many medals from his achievements for his time in the coast guard.

He died from a hear attack at the age of 70
