Notes from Dr. Raeder
Thank you for taking the time to attend conferences and meet with the teachers. Although we have the technology to help with communication such as grades being posted online, emails, and text messages, having a conversation with your student’s teacher is a valuable resource. If you were unable to attend conferences, you are welcome to set up an appointment to talk with your student’s teacher, counselor, and administration. We will be able to discuss what is happening with your student’s education and develop ways to help and challenge your child.
A special thank you to the LHS Parents for providing dinner for our staff during both evenings of conferences. We are appreciative of the support we receive from the Lincoln community.
At LHS, November is the Month of Caring. Our clubs and activities have worked inside and outside the walls of Lincoln High School to make our community a better place. Lincoln families and student groups continue to shower love and items onto Club 17, which helps to provide for the needs our students have during the 17 hours a day when they are not in school. This is a necessary service for some of our students and one that we see needs growing during the colder months.
A Note about Attendance
It’s hard to believe we’ve already completed 9 weeks of school. We are one-quarter of the way through the 2023-24 school year. We’ve built many great habits already and we are giving some special focus to school attendance this year. It is so important for students to be in school, on-time, every day.
There are 176 days in a school year. When your child misses even one day of school, they miss important information on which future lessons will build. Imagine the learning loss if students miss 10 days or more. Catching up can be difficult.
I’d like to encourage our families to make school attendance a priority. We understand that there are medical situations that require a student to be absent, but please consider planning vacations and family events when school is not in session. Schedule routine doctor’s appointments after the school day. Plan ahead with family, neighbors, and friends who can help with transportation to school when you need it.
We can do great things when we make school attendance a priority. We’ve had a great start. Let’s keep our attendance strong all year long.
