mass reflections

Our eighth graders spent some time in religion class recently reflecting on mass last Friday.

Good people are protected by God, but evil lurks around haunting the innocent and faithless. We have to find the good in ourselves, so we can overcome and defeat evil. When we want to do good, we must do it whole-heartedly in our own ways. Look within our own self to fully reassure we're doing good and following God. We can do good by finding youth groups and ministries. Evil finds our weaknesses and uses it against us, so we must fight that urge of falling for it. God gives us the opportunity to do better, so we must follow Him. - Noah

Today's homily mostly talked about doing good. Everyone should do good in their lives and make good choices like God has called us to do. We are called to find the good in everyone and everything. Making good decisions means to do things that God would like and that can make things better for ourselves and others. Don't do evil things that God wouldn't like. - AJ

All people have their own responsibilities, in their own home, outside of work, or even in a public place like a park. Jesus teaches us to always do the right thing, making good choices, and to think about the consequences of a bad action. Any sin, big or small, is still a sin and there should be no compromise making when choosing to sin. Find the good in your actions, see the good in your choices, and find the best way to do something that God will be happy with. - Mireya

free flu shot

St. Joseph Catholic School has partnered with Health Hero Florida to offer no-cost in school vaccinations to your child during the school day on Thursday, November 11th. Students must be at least four years old. Register your child today by completing a consent form and returning it to school by Wednesday, November 3rd. If you would like to register your child, please contact the school by phone or email sheisey@stjosephwhschool.org and we will send home a hard copy of the permission slip.

Health Hero Florida makes immunizations available to every child in an effort to stop diseases like the flu in their tracks, and reduce absenteeism in schools. For more information about Health Hero Florida, visit www.healthheroflorida.com.

Flu season normally peaks between December and February, and can last all the way through May, so fall clinics are the perfect time for your child to receive a flu vaccine. We encourage you to register your child to participate in Health Hero Florida's in-school immunization program. Thank you for your help as St. Joseph Catholic School partners with Health Hero Florida to stop the flu in its tracks!

Demolition of building

You may have noticed some construction work happening on the northwest corner of our property recently. Many of the students certainly have been enthralled by the building being taken down. St. Joseph Catholic Church purchased this property a few years ago. After careful consideration and review of a master plan for our campus, the plan was to demolish the building. The plan is to one day build a rectory on this piece of property for our priests.

blessing of statues

As you know, our classes have adopted a patron saint for the school year. Thanks to some very generous donations of a couple parishioners, we were able to purchase statues for each of our classes. After Mass last week, we held a special blessing of the statues. The statues can now be found on the prayer table in each classroom. Ask your child about his/her patron saint.

Basketball Season is starting for grades 5 - 8. Please be sure we have signed permission and $20 fee paid in the front office before your child attends practice or a meeting.

cold weather new uniform sale

The weather is FINALLY cooling off. Please remember that there are guidelines for all outerwear worn in the classrooms and school building in cool weather. Mrs. Arambarri will be available for new uniform purchases on November 3rd from 7am until 8am. Stop in and make any necessary purchases.

roof and air conditioner update

We are very excited to share that plans are coming together for replacement of our school roof and new air conditioning units. These upgrades are scheduled to be completed during Thanksgiving week.

As you know, we were scheduled to have the roof replaced on our main school building this past summer. We were blessed with the generous support of our parishioners and school families to fund this project. It was scheduled to be completed this past summer. However, due to delay in receiving of materials, the project had to be put on hold. Gator Roofing is our contractor and is planning to complete the project while school is closed for Thanksgiving break. *Please note the early dismissal/calendar change for Friday, November 19th.

Air Conditioners
The Diocesan Finance Council has approved the replacement of 10 air conditioning units for our school. We have signed a contract with Citrus Air to complete this project in tandem with the roof replacement. The air conditioning units are located on the top of the roof, so the simultaneous replacement of the roof and a/c units is perfect.

We are grateful for your continued financial support in maintaining and upgrading our buildings. We have experienced challenges in recent years of leaky roofs and inefficient air conditioners. The replacements of these systems are necessary for the long term maintenance of our building and facility. Thank you!

You all looked great in your pink! Thanks to all who dressed in pink last week. St. Joseph Catholic School has sent a check in the amount of $529.72 to the Breast Cancer Prevention Institute. We pray for a cure for breast cancer. Way to go Eagles!
