Family Reading Night - March 1, 2023
Dear TJS Parents/Guardians:
We are looking forward to next week's Family Reading Night "Books and Jammies" on Wednesday, March 1, 2023. This is our second annual reading night and we are excited about all of our sessions which include staff members and other special guest readers sharing their favorite books! We hope the evening instills a love of reading in our students and families. Students are welcome to attend in their pajamas!
The reading portion of the event begins in designated classrooms at 6:30 PM, however, the Jaguar Jungle doors will open at 6:10 PM. We encourage families to arrive before 6:30 PM so that students can enter a book raffle and get a snack provided by the PTO. Families are encouraged to browse tables of reading materials and handouts as well as obtain new books to bring home from the PTO Book Swap!
Please CLICK HERE to view the family reading night brochure which includes readers, room numbers, session time frames, and book titles for each of the three sessions. Families are encouraged to plan out their evening of classrooms they would like to visit in advance. We will have copies of the brochure available that evening, but you are welcome to print it out ahead of time or maintain a copy on your cell phone to access it.
Raffle winners will be announced after the third reading session and the evening will end at 7:30 PM. We hope to see you there!
Read Across America is just around the corner! Get ready for these fun events to celebrate our love of reading!
Introducing the March Madness Typing Challenge
TJS is proud to announce that during the month of March students in grades K-5 will be competing in a school-wide Typing Challenge! As a school, we have identified how important it is for students to practice their typing skills. We at TJS want students to understand how important typing skills are, and encourage them to practice in a fun and interactive way!
We have decided to hold a March Madness style school-wide Typing Competition. Each class will be competing over the course of March to type the most minutes each week. For this competition we will have two brackets; one for K-2 and one for 3-5. The wonderful thing about these programs is that students do not need to log any of their minutes typing! As the typing administrator, I can calculate minutes for each class. Prizes will be awarded to the winning classes in each bracket.
Next week I will be visiting each class to go over the directions for the typing challenge. However, below is a list of documents that you may need for reference, including the directions for logging into the typing program. Also, all of these documents are linked in each grade’s Technology/STEAM Google Classroom.
Best of luck and I can’t wait to see how many minutes of typing we can complete as a whole school! The competition begins on Monday, March 6, 2023, and will end on Friday, March 31, 2023! If you have any questions or comments please feel free to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org!

K-8 Math/Science Instructional Coach, Mrs. Tina Smith
Hello TJS Families! My name is Tina Smith and this is my tenth year teaching in Madison and twenty-first year living in New Jersey. I am originally from England where I grew up, met my husband, and had my two children. Before moving to NJ, I worked for Pfizer in both the Pharmaceutical Research and Development, and the Chemistry departments.
In 2002 my family relocated to NJ, where I eventually decided to pursue a career in teaching.
I spent my first two years teaching 4th grade and the next four years teaching 5th grade at TJS. In the fall of 2019, I transitioned to the role of K-8 Math and Science Instructional Coach, where I support both the middle school and the three elementary schools. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership.
In my free time, you will find me spending time with my family, and tackling DIY projects. I am also busy helping to plan my son’s upcoming wedding this summer.
