MES Communication
August 7-18
Hello Moncure Community!
I hope I am finding everyone well. It’s hard to believe that school starts back up this week! To those of your who are new, Welcome! If you are returning, we can’t wait to see you again. As a reminder, Kindergarten students will begin their school year on Tuesday, August 8th. Students in Grades 1 through 5 will begin their school year on Wednesday, August, 9th. This year, Moncure’s school hours will run from 8:25AM – 2:55PM. We will receive car and bus riders each morning between 8:05AM and 8:25AM. Likewise, we will begin our dismissal at 2:55PM and plan to have all students boarded on buses or in cars by 3:25PM. We ask for your patience as we help our 850ish Bears learn their new morning and afternoon routines. Together, we got this!
Thanks for your partnership!
Mr. Machi

SCPS 2023-24 Calendar

Transportation Information Look for personalized emails on August 7th @ 12PM
Our staff has been working very hard to gather transportation information for each of our students. As of now, we are up to 16 buses, 128 car riders, our YMCA SACC program, and 5 daycare vans. Based on last year’s daycare providers, we are still missing information for 3 or more afternoon daycare providers. When you receive your personalized email, please look at your information carefully. We have also noticed that several bus stops have changed since last school year. Getting everyone to and from school safely is our number one priority. If you would like to check your bus stops from home, you can continue to do so through the Versatrans e-Link. Versatrans is your connection to SCPS student transportation schedules. It provides a quick, easy way to verify your student’s bus assignment, stop location and stop time. Students are asked to be at their bus stops 5 minutes prior to their scheduled pick-up time.
Versatrans e-Link Instructions:
Go to the Versatrans e-Link website. https://scpsbussystem.staffordschools.net/elinkrp/Login.aspx
Username: Student’s ID number (Contact teacher or school if unknown).
Password: Student’s Date of Birth (Format: mmddyyyy). Example: 04/15/2019 would be entered as 04152019.
Hover over “Students,” then click “View My Students.” Select your student. It will then display your student’s bus information.
Car Rider Registration
I would like to thank everyone who has already registered for our Car Rider system. If you are planning for your Bear(s) to be daily car riders, we ask that you to complete the Car Rider Registration form below ASAP. Based on the completion of this form, family numbers and student tags will be created. Please do not wait until the first day of school to complete this form. As a school with over 850 students, your help now will greatly reduce confusion later. Car rider tags will be distributed as students are being dropped off during their first day of school. Due to safety reasons, students will not be dismissed to cars without matching tags. If you are not able to come to pick up your tag before our first afternoon dismissal, you will need to park your car and come to the office to pick up your tag and sign out your children. Thanks for the understanding.
All Moncure Students are Eligible for Free Breakfast and Lunch
We are pleased to let you know that Anne E. Moncure ES will be implementing the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) for the 2023-2024 school year. CEP allows eligible schools participating in the USDA National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program to provide meals at no cost to all students without meal applications.
What does this mean for you and your student(s) attending the school(s) identified above?
Great news! All students attending Anne E. Moncure ES are eligible to receive a nutritious breakfast and lunch at school at no charge to your household each school day. You do not have to take any action. The student(s) in all households who attend a participating CEP school will receive a complete breakfast and lunch meal without you paying a fee or submitting a meal application.
If you have questions or need information, please contact us at 540-658-6300.
A Bit about Moncure’s House System
Moncure kicked off our house system during the 2019-20 school year. As a member of our school, students and staff members spin a wheel to determine his or her particular house. Moncure has six houses. While each house has a unique name, each name stands for a specific trait. While we are all part of one “Bear Nation,” every house wants to be crowned “House of the Year.” To do this, all students and staff are held to a list of standards and expectations that we refer to as our “Vital 40.” When teachers observe students practicing our Vital 40, students receive house points. When students, parents, and staff members catch our staff going above and beyond, they can recognize our staff with “Caught Ya” Citations for one house point. During a typical school year, we gather every quarter for “House Celebrations.” During these events, we show support for our houses and recognize one student from each house for their exemplary Vital 40 act(s). Each of these students are granted a supplementary opportunity to spin our wheel for house points. Our student body absolutely loves cheering each other on during these events. On the last day of our school year, we hold our final House Celebration. During this occasion, we crown our “House of the Year” and “Bear of the Year.” This is an amazing time of unity and support. Both of these honors are displayed on gym banners. We love our house system and look forward to seeing our “Vital 40” demonstrated throughout our school and community.
CONGRATULATIONS!!!

A Note to School - Communication
Plans change and communication makes everything easier. Should you need to report an absence or adjust your BEAR’S dismissal plan, please contact our school. One way to communicate is by completing our “A Note to School” form and sending it through email to our office and your student’s teacher or by simply sending the form or a note to school. To access digital forms of this note, you can go to the parent portion of our webpage or simply use the link below. Thanks for keeping us informed. The earlier the better.
How to communicate with Moncure:
mefrontoffice@staffordschools.net -or- "A Note To School"
Please include in all emails:
Student's Name, Teacher's Name, and your name
Office Dismissal Hours (“No Student Office Dismissals” after 2:30PM)
It is not uncommon for our office and elementary schools across our county to receive multiple emails each day with dismissal changes from parents. The notifications require our office to contact teachers to prevent students from being dismissed incorrectly. Student office dismissals after 2:30PM only add to this confusion. Please understand that our “No Student Office Dismissal” restriction after 2:30PM is based on student safety. Thanks for your understanding!
“Caught Ya” Citations
“Caught Ya” Citations are a great way for students, parents, and staff to recognize adults in our building! These citations also provide students with an opportunity to earn House Points. Everyone wants to be a member of the “House of the Year!” If you would like to recognize one or more of our staff members, simply use this link. “Caught Ya” – Staff Citation Link Thanks for making someone’s day!
