Thumbs up to surviving the first week of 4th grade!
This Week!
What a great first full week! I am enjoying getting to know all your students and seeing the positive interactions that they are having. Here is what we worked on:
We took our MAPS Reading and Language tests.
Math: We started Unit 1, discussing place value to the millions, rounding and different ways to write numbers. (expanded form, standard form and written form) See a picture below to get a peek into some of our learning.
Writing: Students worked through the first writing trait of ideas. We made memory boxes and lots of brainstorming to come up with ideas to write about throughout the year!
Science/Social Studies: We have been still going through procedures and learning more about our classroom and classmates this week.

Next Week:
Students will be completing the MAPS Math test.
Reading: We will read a story called Hot and Cold Summer. We are going to focus on character traits, motivations and actions. We will also read a story called How Bad Could It Be? about a kid who's prank went very wrong and we will put ourselves in his shoes and how he had to apologize and make better choices next time. Lastly, we will read a story called Each Kindness and we talk about being a great classmate.
Writing: Students will start their first writing project of the school year called "A Summer to Tweet About". We are focusing on paragraph writing. Please be helping your students at home with using these focus skills every time they are writing.
Math: Students will be still reviewing place value, rounding and writing numbers different ways along with working on their multi-digit addition. We will also discuss estimation and mental math.
Science: Students will be learning about the scientific method and will be designing science experiments that will take them through the scientific method and investigation.
Social Studies: We will begin our Daily Geography which will help us develop our map skills and learn about US and World Geography.
Thank you!
