WE-SIDE CONTESTS OPEN TO ALL STUDENTS, STAFF AND FAMILIES
One of the primary goals of Westside Community Schools is to be open and honest about doing all we can to make sure every student, staff member, and visitor feels welcome, appreciated, and supported throughout our school district. WE-SIDE has a staff advisory council that has been established to help work on this important initiative.
We look forward to getting past COVID-19 and being able to engage many others, including students, more staff, parents, and community. We look forward to various committees working on a curriculum audit to ensure cultural awareness and fairness, more professional development, more inclusive practices, more grade level programming for students about the importance of respect for others, and much more as we plan for our exciting future. With that, we encourage you and your family to take a look at the flyer included below with details on some great contests taking place throughout our District in February!
We are sponsoring poetry, photography, and creative video contests with prizes for winners!
Bottom line, we want EVERYONE within our organization, regardless of age, skin color, religion, home address, socio-economic status, gender, beliefs, etc., to feel great about being part of Westside Community Schools.
A mindset of “WE” is the key!
Congratulations, Spelling Bee Winners!
The 2020-21 WCS District Spelling Bee was held virtually on January 13th. The top 2 spellers from each elementary school, along with the top 8 spellers from WMS competed in the competition.
After 14 rounds of amazing spelling, Payton N. from WMS came in first place! Payton will represent Westside at the Omaha World-Herald’s Midwest Spelling Bee on Saturday, March 6th.
Congratulations to all of these top spellers!

Love Olivia Foundation Blanket & Towel Drive
Help Westside help the Nebraska Humane Society! The Love Olivia Foundation is in honor/remembrance of Olivia McGinnis-Taylor. Olivia passed away from a brain aneurysm the summer before going into 7th grade. She would have been in her sophomore year of college this year. Olivia's younger sister is Jasmine McGinnis-Taylor, a respected member of the Westside Basketball Program who graduated in 2020, and her mother Karla is still a huge supporter of WHS athletics. Karla and her sister Kim Foster started the "Love Olivia Foundation" a few years ago, and they donate and support different organizations throughout Omaha supporting both underprivileged youth activity programs and the Nebraska Humane Society, two of Olivia's loves. Westside has annually chosen one game to honor and remember Olivia, and this year, will host a towel/blanket drive for the Nebraska Humane society at the February 2 game vs. Elkhorn South.
Please bring your new or gently used blankets and/or towels to the game to donate in Olivia's honor!
Westside Community Schools does not sponsor or endorse the organizations or activities described below. The distribution of these materials is provided as a community service.
