Message From Mrs. Kilday
I hope you had a wonderful week off! I am excited to see you all tomorrow. Please remember to complete the daily health screener by 8:30 a.m.
Although I enjoyed the week off and time with my family, I found myself thinking often about the news of the week, specifically the Derek Chauvin verdict and feeling so many emotions. I especially want to reach out to our families of color and let them know that my thoughts are with them. I cannot begin to imagine the emotions you have experienced. As a building leader processing the events that occurred, my mind goes directly to our school and what we could be doing to support each other. I wonder, are we doing the right thing? Do our students understand the importance of respect and acceptance? Are we doing everything we can to build the base for strong, compassionate citizens who value all people? Does everyone in our school feel a genuine sense of belonging? Are we teaching our children the importance of advocacy and social justice?
I look at the work we are doing and the interactions in our school and I believe we are on the right track to achieving these things for our children and I believe that preschool is the perfect age to start doing this work. It's not easy finding developmentally appropriate ways for sending these messages, but I can promise you that we will never stop. I can also promise you that we will continue to evaluate and reflect on this important work every day.
It is work that I feel responsible for and am proud to engage in with our staff. Today I feel rested and ready to further our work in this area. Today I feel HOPE!

Autism Awareness/Acceptance Month
The month of April is Autism Awareness/Acceptance Month.
As you know, acceptance and respect are two of our core values at the preschool. With that in mind we have chosen to wear red on Thursday to acknowledge acceptance. Acceptance feels very much like respect and there are many ways we help our young children understand what it means to accept and respect each other. Even so, the concept of respect is a difficult one and can be very abstract for young children. Here are a few resources that you may find helpful.

We are proud to wear red on Thursday and feel privileged to work with our students on the Autism Spectrum. We appreciate their unique individuality and the joy they bring us every day!
