What's the Franklin Flier?
The Franklin Flier is the way in which important information about school is communicated to families. Every two weeks an email and text message are sent to families with the link to the new Franklin Flier.
We DO NOT send home regular paper communication, instead it is sent electronically in the Franklin Flier. The goal is to provide one place for families to go to be able to get general details about Franklin, time sensitive information about events, and grade level specific newsletters.
Please take a few minutes each time you receive the flier to look through the information that is included so that you stay informed.

WHY IS RAISING MONEY THROUGH THE WALK-A-THON IMPORTANT?
Franklin Elementary PTO helps with community building at Franklin and financially supports the extra costs of our students’ education. Items funded by PTO include: classroom supplies (over $100 per teacher), reading programs and author visits, Science Fair ribbons, playground balls for recess, busing and entrance fees for field trips, staff appreciation celebrations, movie nights, game night, and so much more.
If we can raise $11,000 from the Walk-A-Thon, Franklin will be financially set to cover all of the above expenses and more this year. As a PTO, we selected a Walk-A-Thon, as it not only creates a FUN community event with a health focus, but allows for PTO to earn the most money with the least financial impact on families compared to food and product sales (i.e., 100% of Walk-A-Thon funds are better than 40-50% from product sales). Plus it’s easier for families as it’s “one and done” — students' pledges are a flat donation and not based on laps/distance, so you can collect the money before the Walk-A-Thon and be done!
WHEN IS WALK-A-THON AND CAN FAMILIES ATTEND?
Parents and families are welcome to attend, walk, cheer, or volunteer. The Walk-A-Thon will take place on Friday, September 27 from 1:15-2:15. Grades will be staggered across
the school grounds and walk along the ALPS trail/sidewalks circling the school. Students can walk/jog as much or little as they like, as there will be grade rest areas. At 2 p.m., students will begin crossing the finish line, so if you can't make it the whole time, 2 p.m. is a great time to stop by. As students finish, they will head to snack and water stations to relax, before regrouping as a whole school to celebrate our accomplishments. The top fundraiser in each class will get to turn Mrs. Berg and Mrs. Miller into human sundaes as part of this celebration.
WHAT WILL STUDENTS EARN?
If we raise $11,000, every student in the school will receive a free Scholastic book by the end of November and PTO will cover ALL costs associated with the roller skating curriculum in physical education. There are many other grade, class, and individual prizes for our students to earn including a movie viewing experience, visit from the Woot Woot Wagon, trophies, and more.
Pledge sheets with envelopes are due to classroom teachers on Tuesday. Donations also accepted online at givemn.org, simply type Franklin Elementary under Find a Cause and donate securely through our organization page. In the dropdown list, we’re the Franklin Elementary located in Mankato, MN with the falcon logo. On the donation page, please select Add a dedication and list the Franklin student’s name in the dedication to help PTO track gifts.
Will you be at the Franklin Picnic on October 10?
It will be an opportunity for our Franklin community to get together to celebrate the start of the new school year.
The PTO has generously provided all beef hot dogs, buns, plates, napkins, forks, and condiments. We ask that all families who attend bring a side dish (last names beginning with A-R) or dessert (last names beginning with S-Z) to share with others. Please bring these when you come, DO NOT send them to school before the event.
Ideas for side dishes- Veggies & dip, cheese sticks, bag of chips, salad, fruit
Families will also need to bring their own beverages.
We look forward to seeing everyone on Thursday, October 10 at 5:30.
In the event of inclement weather, we will cancel the picnic.
Why no bananas on Wednesdays?
