Social: Voting and Civil Rights Act
Civil Rights Act
outlawed discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. It ended unequal application of voter registration requirements and racial segregation in schools, at the workplace and by facilities that served the general publicVoting Rights Act
allowed for a mass enfranchisement of racial minorities throughout the country, especially in the south. According to the U.S Department of Justice, the Act is considered to be the most effective piece of Civil Rights legislation ever enacted in the country.
Welfare: TANF and Medicaid
designed to help needy families achieve self-sufficiency. States receive block grants to design and operate programs that accomplish one of the purposes of the TANF program.
