By Mrs. Koppers ancient innovation!

The Aztecs were widely known for their knowledge of agriculture and their ability to grow food such as maize, beans, and squash. One top notch innovative technique was Chinampa! Those super smart Aztecs used this method in swampy areas for farming. A chinampa was an artificial island that the Aztecs built up in the lake. They built many chinampas and used these manmade islands to plant crops. The chinampas were amazing for cultivating crops because the soil was extremely fertile and the crops had plenty of water to grow.
