Unite Oregon City
July 2021
Welcome to Unite Oregon City
Thank you for standing with us and helping to build a more equitable place to live, work and visit. If you are interested in getting more involved with one of our committees, please reach out to us at uniteoregoncity@gmail.com
Unite Oregon City is an active, non-partisan volunteer group working to create an inclusive community where all voices are heard and respected. Our mission is to promote equity and acceptance within the community of Oregon City and surrounding areas.
The group was founded in 2016 due to parent and community concerns around race-related incidents at Oregon City High School. Starting with providing input on the school district’s Equity resolution in 2017, we have continued to work with our schools and also expanded to supporting our community, local government, and the Oregon City police department to advocate for other groups and address issues related to diversity, equity and inclusion throughout Oregon City.
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” -Margaret Mead

Community Service
Unite Oregon City coordinated an effort to demonstrate our support to the staff at the Metro South Transfer Station in Oregon City. This was in response to repeated incidents of symbols of hate being strung up on the premises.* It was agreed with the leadership of the Transfer Station that providing desserts for their planned Juneteenth event would be most appreciated.

We participated in our bi-monthly sack lunch making for The Father’s Heart. Please check out this wonderful organization supporting our houseless neighbors The Father's Heart Street Ministry | Helping those in need in Oregon City (tfhstreetministry.com)
We look forward to attending the rescheduled community BBQ with The Living Room.
Fundraising
As we continue our mission to help those in Oregon City, we have realized the need to fundraise. If you have any experience or interest in helping our group in this capacity, please, contact us to take part in upcoming brainstorming sessions!
Keeping Oregon City Safe
We want to touch on the concern around the flag wave events occurring in Oregon City and how that affects the community climate here. Although there are many American flags flown, there are also several flags of concern that make appearances during these weekly events. Here are links to two recent articles highlighting the flag wave events in Oregon City, and if you look at the pictures that accompany each article, you will notice a range of different flags present, not just the American flag. The article in the Oregon City News from May 21, 2021, highlights the violent groups attracted to the flag waves, which led to closure of Clackamas Community College and changes to events being held at Oregon City High School. This second article in the Portland Tribune on June 18, 2021, documents the flag wave event that led directly to a riot being declared in Oregon City as the two groups fought with each other in a public park.
There has been misinformation about our involvement in the weekly flag waves. While we have not participated in them, we have not been involved in any effort to end them. We do not condone violence or intimidation as a means to social change.
