Ripon Cathedral School Update
Week ending Friday 20th July 2018
Farewell year six and Mr Dudman
Saying Goodbye
On an emotional Friday the school came together to say their goodbyes.
In the morning the year six children and Mr Dudman were presented with cakes from Sally the school cook. The children also said thank you and goodbye to Mrs Turner, Mrs Rasbeary and Miss Stephenson, they also wished Miss Dumbreck well as she started her maternity leave. The reaction of the children showed that all of these staff will be missed and we wish them well.
In the afternoon a special assembly was held to mark the departure of Mr Dudman. The children had all prepared songs to say goodbye and presented Mr D with cards of thanks written by all of the children. They also produced an hilarious video of what school might be like when Mr Dudman leaves; which included riotous children, flip flop wearing staff and Mrs Baker dancing on the head teacher's desk. Mr Dudman presented the school with a set of wind chimes for the faith garden.
Mr Dudman was presented with the gift of a David Stead painting of Dunstanburgh Beach from parents, friends and staff of the school.
"Thank you so much, I am touched by your generosity," said Mr Dudman,"I love Northumberland and this picture. I shall hang it in my house and every time I look it I shall think of Cathedral School, I'm sure it will give me a 'wave' back."
Jungle Book- What a show!
Year One Weather Reports
To end their REAL projects Year One produced weather reports from around the world, and some wildlife updates as well. On Wednesday morning many parents enjoyed refreshments and watched the twenty minute programme in the our chapel movie house.
Well done Year One, next stop Netflix!
Mrs Rasbeary gets dunked at Camp Hill
Year 4 enjoyed fantastic team building day at Comp Hill last Friday. The day was a great success, not least because everyone managed to get to the island!
A final message from Mr Dudman
Thank you for the many gifts and kind messages I have received since announcing my departure. It has been a privilege to be Headteacher at Cathedral and I will leave with many fond memories.
I will miss everything about the school – the wonderful children who engage me every day with their smiles, jokes and achievements; you, the parents who have been so supportive (a special mention to those parents who work tirelessly on the Friends) and of course the amazing staff and governing body.
I like gardening and I see some similarities between this and running a school. We look after your children like plants; we provide the right conditions, tend and care for them, protect them from outside elements and give them the freedom to become what God has designed them to be. Then we find joy in the diversity and richness of them when they bloom. We all work hard to make Cathedral a warm, friendly place for pupils to thrive, flourish and excel.
I am sure this will continue under the leadership of Mr Holmes whom I would like to wish every success when he takes over in September. A headteacher is only ever a custodian of a school and I am merely passing on the keys. I know you will welcome and care for Mr Holmes as he works to make Cathedral even better and take the school forward on its next exciting chapter.
Thank you all once again for all your friendship and support, for believing in me, and for politely laughing at my cheesy jokes at school events.
Have a super summer holiday.
With every best wish and much love,
Darren Dudman
Oscar's Summer Fun Holiday Club
Something for Everyone!
On Monday 23rd July, Oscar's will start the holiday club with the opportunity for the children to choose games, crafts and activities to enjoy with their friends. Mr Biggs will be here on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and as we know how much the children love his PE lessons, we're sure it will be fantastic. The first week ends with the chance to have fun in the sun (or chill inside if the weather breaks!).
In the second week, Amelia of Ripon Upstage Academy will be joining us with her team from Monday through to Wednesday. We are thrilled to be able to offer this outstanding opportunity exclusively to the children of our school.
After all the excitement and activity, we think everyone will appreciate the chance to choose games or crafts for the final two days of an action packed two weeks!
Emails have gone out with full details of how to book Oscar's in the summer holidays. Booking online is essential, so do it now to avoid disappointment - places are limited and filling fast!
