Updates and information...
Parents,
We are devastated at the latest Proclamation closing schools for the remainder of this school year. This was not the outcome we were anticipating hearing and we are completely saddened at this new reality. At this time, we do not know when we will have PK and Kindergarten registration for next year. We are saddened at the loss of our Kindergarten and 5th grade closing ceremonies. We were looking forward to celebrating those milestones with our students and families. At this time, those events are cancelled. In this time of uncertainty, I'd ask that we try and shift our focus to the things that we do know and try and keep focused on the positives. Since there are so many questions and not many answers at this time, let's focus on the positives that we do know:
1. We know that when we return to school. we will all be ready to be back! (Parents might be a little happy about sending the students back to us too.)
2. We know that the teachers are still trying to provide for students. They will continue to post resources and activities on teacher websites each week for you to keep your students engaged. No work is for a grade but completing activities will keep their brains working and skills sharp.
3. We know the The Meals to Go Program has begun home deliveries and is benefiting many of our school families. What a blessing!
4. We know we can handle beginning school next year. We are SO ready to see our students! We will be able to identify student needs in the fall and make plans to help students with any gaps. We already have things in place for daily small groups and have ideas in the works to help students next school year..
5. We know that students are resilient and that it's important for them to feel safe and loved. Those things are far more important than academics right now. Take care of them for now and in the fall we will be ready to handle all of the academics again. If you're struggling, seek out help and please do not let school work add to any stress for your family.
We are committed to our students and to their success. We have to keep pushing forward and know that things will get better. Thank you for the support and trust you've given us. We promise to pass on information and help you navigate these weird times to the best of our ability. Be sure to communicate with your child's teacher(s) and let us know how you're doing.
The information about student promotion to the next grade will be finalized over the last month of school. For students who were in danger of retention, it's critical that they continue working on things from the teachers.
How can you help students keep learning at home?
Go to www.southforkelem.org and then click on TEACHER WEBSITES at the top. Once on their website you will be able to see resources and information about learning activities for each week. Teachers will update this weekly. Please check back to see updated information. I will continue our weekly newsletters to share information.
Thank you Mrs. KIm & Mrs. Gina!
