February 2019
KCS AVID Student of the Month
Our KCS AVID student of the month for February is Angel Hellen from Northwest Middle School. Angel is an 8th grader who has been in AVID for 2 years. Angel is a self-motivated hard worker who pays close attention to detail in all she does. She is a kind-hearted student who wants what is best for herself and others she comes in contact with. She will hopefully be attending Career Magnet Academy @PSCC in the fall to pursue her goals for her future.
KCS AVID PD day 2
On February 1, day 2 of KCS AVID PD was held at the SSPDC. All schools were represented including Karns Middle School who will join our AVID cohort in the 19/20 school year. Participants learned more AVID strategies as they worked with their content colleagues to focus on how to utilize each piece of new learning specifically for their classes. The collaboration was a wonderful sight. We were even joined by some KCS Curriculum and Instruction team. Thanks to Katherine Petko, Anne Stinnett, and Shayna Holmes for attending and sharing their insight.
KCS AVID School Highlights: Whittle Springs Middle School College and Career Week
The last week of January was Whittle Springs Middle School's celebration of College and Career week. AVID students researched colleges and careers to display in the hallways, the school competed with morning college trivia, and teachers decorated doors with the theme "If I Wasn't a Teacher, I Would Be...". Throughout the school students could follow footsteps to different colleges and careers, creating a dynamic environment with post secondary focus.
