Salt & Straw Student Inventor Series
Last year the 4th grade classes paired up with Salt & Straw as part the Student Inventor Series. One flavor was chosen to be produced and sold at all Portland area scoop shops this month. Congratulations to Ohana and her winning flavor Ohana's Falcon Vanilla Taro! The proceeds of this flavor will be donated to Forest Hills.
Celebrating Birthdays
Classrooms each have their own traditions to celebrate birthdays. For our families, please remember that classroom birthdays are food free and party favor free. This allows for an inclusive classroom experience for all students while still providing special recognition for each child on their special day.
PTO Registration
For your convenience, the PTO is offering online registration. Registration allows you to sign up for a variety of volunteer opportunities, pay the classroom fee, and make an optional donation.
Art Literacy Training
Art Literacy is a great way to volunteer and provide an enriching experience for our students. Parent volunteers will be trained in the history and technique of artists and then lead an art activity with a classroom. Parent training sessions will be held in the library from 9 to 10:30.
October 1st | Botticelli
November 5th | Kandinsky
January 7th | Rousseau
February 4th | Escher
March 3rd | Morisot
April 7th | Native American Art
Find more information by visiting the Art Literacy website or by contacting Caitie Coleman, caitie_coleman@me.com.

Welcome to My World Volunteers Needed
Welcome to My World is a school-board approved program developed by the Student Services Parent Advisory Committee (SSPAC) as an opportunity for students to experience what life might be like for an individual with a disability.
Students will rotate between 3 stations: Dyslexia, Sensory Processing Disorder, and Speech and Language Impairment. At the end of the session, each class will reflect on their personal reactions to the experience, their thoughts about what it is like for students with a disability, and a plan for how to be a supportive community member to a peer who may be experiencing this disability. The experience will take place in the library at the following times:
September 24 | Neerhout @ 12:30 to 1:30
September 24 | Swan @ 1:30 to 2:30
September 25 | Bartlett @ 1:30 - 2:30
We can’t run this program without volunteers! If you’ve never seen W2MW done, don’t worry, you will receive training materials to review at home and a training 15 prior to the session.
If you have any questions, please contact your SSPAC School Representative Gina Johnston (Johnston_inkley@yahoo.com) or School Counsellor Hayley Drimmel (drimmelh@loswego.k12.or.us).
