SCHOOL SAFETY

On Thursday April 27, the Estabrook School faculty and staff (no students) conducted our annual school safety practice with the Lexington Police. We closed the campus for the afternoon while Lextended was on an off-site field trip. I would like to thank the Lexington Police Department for their tremendous support in helping to train our staff and keep our school safe.

Before School Maker Club

Announcing the Estabrook Before School Maker Club!

Join your friends for some morning time inventing, creating and exploring! Open to all Estabrook students. We'll use the Maker Carts, but PLEASE bring any extra recyclables or craft supplies from home that you would like to incorporate into your projects. You can even bring old electronics (no glass) to take apart and use in new ways. Please see this link for appropriate donations that we could use (whether or not your child participates in the before school club). https://docs.google.com/document/d/1CEr8hrBBhGFkZK-c_j_g-Q5TuLjGDwvA7wVrKyswMKg/edit?usp=sharing

Work on your own or with a friend and take home your creations at the end of the week! This is an adult-supervised, but child-lead activity. Generously supported by an LEF Grant and free to participants! All sessions will be held in Room 306.

If registering more than one child, please do each one separately. If you have any questions, email Mark Taggart at mtaggart@lexingtonma.org

Read the Day Away on Thursday, May 17

On Thursday, May 17 Estabrook School is excited to "Read The Day Away" as part of our Children's Book Week celebration. Student will enjoy independent reading, which is a natural part of their usual reading instruction, while also having the opportunity to practice sustained reading for pleasure. To meet students' developmental needs, our goal is:

  • K and 1 to read one hour in school
  • 2 & 3 to read two hours in school
  • 4 & 5 for the entire morning in school.

There will be many variations of reading throughout the school day including: read alouds, readers' theatre, listening centers, oral storytelling, and book buddies. Students will read their books from school, but are also welcome to bring books in from home if they'd like. Stay tuned for more information!

Reminder

Drivers - please do not drop-off or pick-up at the rear of the school at the end of Robinson Road. The only drop-off and pick-up is in the front of the school for arrival and dismissal.
