Principal
Kia ora koutou,
Student Conferences
In a couple of weeks you will get an opportunity to meet with your child's class teacher to discuss the progress that has been made over the past two terms. This is a time to share what learning has taken place in the classroom and students sharing their goals and next steps. Please go on and book a time with your child's teacher. There will also be an opportunity to clarify anything you were unsure of with your child's mid year report.
Looking to 90%
As I have mentioned in previous newsletters the Ministry of Education have set a new Attendance and Engagement Strategy - aiming to have students attending school regularly (defined as attending school 9 out of 10 days). Whilst the timing of bringing this new strategy out could have been better (considering this has been a problem for the past 10 years) schools have been required to be responsive with its actions.
When looking at our mid year student achievement information for reading, writing and mathematics we have seen some very good progress being made by students. Those students who have attended school regularly over the past 6 months have made greater progress than those who have had an attendance rate of 80% or less.
Hopefully, over the next term we will see our attendance rates increase to the levels that we would expect to see. We will be continuing to identify families that need support with regular attendance through our Check in, Check out program.
