Free and Reduced Lunch Applications
While we are currently offering FREE breakfast and lunch to all students, the funding for this program ends December 31, 2020. We know that each year many of our families qualify for free or reduced price meals and it is very important that families who may qualify fill out the annual application now in order to receive free or reduced price meals beyond December 31st!
We know many families may be waiting until January to apply, but it’s imperative you do not wait. If you think there is a chance your family might qualify for free & reduced lunch, please submit your application as soon as possible. The application process is simple and confidential. New this year, is the online application process! Directions for filling out the application online can be found HERE. Prefer print applications? Those can be found here: English/Spanish and returned to any school office or the District Administration Office.
If you qualify for free or reduced price meals, you may also be eligible to receive free internet service at your home. If you qualify for the free or reduced price meal program, you will receive a letter of approval. Once you have this letter, and if you are interested in the free Internet Access Program from the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI), please contact Brenda Hunt at: huntb@monroe.wednet.edu or 360.804.2500 (English) and Olga Flores at: floreso@monroe.wednet.edu or 360.804.2570 (Spanish) to receive the name of the internet provider and the offer/promo code to sign up for free internet. You can find more information on OSPI’s internet program here.
As a reminder, all families wishing to receive free or reduced meals must complete a new application each school year. We care about our students and want to do everything we can to make sure they receive every available support we can offer. If you need assistance filling out the application, please contact your child’s school or the District Administration Office at (360) 804-2500.

McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Act
The McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Act of 1987 provides support for homeless children and youth to continue their education without interruption or barriers. If your family is homeless, or if you are in a temporary living situation due to economic circumstances, your preschool-aged and school-aged children have certain rights or protections under federal law.
Who Qualifies? - Any child or youth is considered homeless and qualifies for services when he or she lacks a nighttime residence that is fixed, regular, and adequate.
This may include the following:
- Sharing housing due to economic hardship, loss of housing, or a similar reason.
- Living in motels, campgrounds, trailer parks, or similar locations due to lack of alternative, adequate accommodations.
- Transitional housing (a program going from homeless to independent living usually within 24 months).
- Staying in an emergency shelter.
- Children and youth abandoned in hospitals.
- Living in cars, train stations, public spaces, parks, abandoned buildings, and other substandard housing.
- Runaway youth, or children whose parent will not permit them to live at home.
- Unaccompanied youth who are not in the physical custody of a parent or guardian and also meet the McKinney-Vento definition of homeless.
- Migratory children and youth who are living in one of the above situations.
If you are homeless or know someone who is experiencing homelessness please contact us:

FAFSA - Free Application for Federal Student Aid
Apply Now for 2021-22 Financial Aid
As of October 1, 2020, students can apply for financial aid for the 2021-22 school year. With all the uncertainty caused by COVID-19, education after high school is more important than ever. Filing a financial aid application gives you more options for the future.
In Washington, there are two ways to apply for financial aid:
- U.S. citizens and eligible non-citizens apply with the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).
- People who can't file the FAFSA—due to immigration status, defaulted federal loans, or other issues with federal aid—can apply for state aid with the WASFA (Washington Application for State Financial Aid).
Completing a FAFSA or WASFA financial aid application is a crucial first step toward college and career training. Many families assume they won’t qualify for aid, but there’s more help available than ever before—the only way to know for sure if you’ll qualify is to apply.
Learn more, get support, and apply for financial aid at wsac.wa.gov/apply.
